The HNC has a Total Qualification Time (TQT) of 1,200 hours, which represents the average time required to complete the qualification.
40% (480 hours) is delivered on campus through lectures and workshops
Approximately 15 hours per week: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
Time is split between taught lessons and supported research-based workshops.
60% (720 hours) is dedicated to independent study, including:
Completing assignments
Self directed research
Study in the Learning Resource Centre (LRC).
In addition, students must complete a minimum of 225 hours of work placement within the health and care sector.
How is the course assessed?
Assessment methods include:
Coursework assignments and Pearson set assessments
Structured tasks and written reports
Written tests
Practical activities such as work placement assessments, presentations, and oral examinations.
For students to be eligible for funding from Student Finance England, they must be studying on an eligible course at a provider registered with the Office for Students (OfS). Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)

Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care or a related field (MMM grade or above or 96 UCAS points), Access to Health and Human Sciences or a related field GCSE English and Maths at a grade 4 or above (or equivalent FS L2) Relevant care experience is helpful but not essential. Students with overseas qualifications are welcome. Non-native English speakers who have not completed their final two years of schooling in English must demonstrate English proficiency equivalent to IELTS 5.5, with at least 5.5 in Reading and Writing.
