A level

Grades AAA at A level taken within three academic years prior to the time of application to include Chemistry or Biology; and one of either Biology, Chemistry, Maths, Physics or Psychology, plus one other subject. Grades ABB or above will be accepted for applicants eligible under our Widening Access to Medicine Scheme. Our A level resit policy states that applicants with pending resit grades must have achieved at least AAB in the first sitting (or BBB for applicants eligible under our Widening Access to Medicine Scheme). Resit applicants with achieved grades of AAA (or ABB for Widening Access to Medicine Scheme eligible applicants) do not need to meet our first sitting requirement.

Scottish Higher

Grades AAB from Scottish Advanced Highers with grades AA to come from Biology and/or Chemistry and another science subject. We will also require National 5 Grade B or above or GCSE in English Language and Maths.

Access to HE Diploma

offer-distinction: 30.0, offer-merit: 15.0, offer-pass: 0.0

We currently accept any QAA accredited Access to Higher Education Diploma (Medicine) qualification that meets the subject descriptor for Medicine. Applicants must have achieved 60 credits with a minimum of 45 credits at Level 3 of which at least 30 Level 3 credits must be at Distinction and, in addition 15 Level 3 credits must be at a minimum of Merit. The further 15 ungraded credits can be a combination of Level 2 and 3. Access qualifications should be awarded within three years prior to the year of entry applied for. A minimum of 4 GCSE passes at grades A*-B (9-5) are also required including English Language, Maths and two science subjects. Applicants are encouraged to check with their educational provider that their qualification meets the necessary criteria for admission to the medical programme.

4 GCSEs at grade 5/b or above including Maths, English Language and two science subjects.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

666 at Higher Level in Biology and/or Chemistry plus one other science and including Mathematics or English.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)

Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017)

Including Biology and/or Chemistry and another science subject. Plus Irish Leaving Certificate in Maths and English Language at grade O4 or above.
