**PGCE Secondary - Outdoor Activities (ODA) (QTS)**
Share your passion for the outdoors with the PGCE outdoor activities programme, the only opportunity to gain a PGCE with QTS in outdoor and adventure education in the UK. With the Eryri national park on our doorstep, a campus location literally on the shores of the Afon Menai Strait, your opportunities for teaching and learning in the outdoors will only be limited by your imagination. A combination of lectures, seminars and many practical experience sessions will provide you with a detailed understanding of how children and young people learn in the outdoors and equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to become an innovative teacher in the outdoors.

Here at Bangor, we will ensure that you have the qualities needed to not only be an outstanding outdoor and adventure education teacher, but also an outdoor learning pedagogue (moving beyond outdoor instruction), with the capacity to contribute to the broader health and well-being curriculum, be that in a residential outdoor education centre or teaching in a school setting.

We also offer the unique opportunities to develop your skills teaching another area of curriculum with our joint method programme where you can combine many of our other PGCE subjects with ODA. If your degree is in a subject not related to the outdoors but you have significant experience working in the outdoors this challenging but rewarding route may be for you. The ODA programme operates as a joint method or single method pathway dependent on your degree and experience.

**Why Study with us?**
• Where better to study outdoor and adventure education than on edge of the Eryri national park with Anglesey’s world class coastline on our doorstep. The ODA programme is the longest running outdoor education teacher education course in the UK and is now the only course offering QTS through a PGCE in adventure and outdoor education.

• A well-equipped store of equipment means you can work towards national governing body awards without needing to invest heavily in boats, bikes, climbing gear or equipment and there are many opportunities to enrich your studies with overseas expeditions and skills development sessions.

• Experienced tutors and internationally recognised researchers will provide you with the skills needed to become the educators of the future. Lead school and residential centre experiences with highly skilled, experienced mentors, along with placements at schools and residential outdoor education centres will support your development towards Qualified Teacher Status.

• An opportunity to study whilst immersing yourself in Welsh culture, language, and environment, here in beautiful North Wales. Professional support for Welsh language learning whether you are a complete beginner or a fluent user of the language.

Be the inspiration for the next generation.

This PGCE with QTS is recognised across Wales and England and is often transferable further afield for entry into the teaching profession. Those seeking to teach outside Wales and England should check recognition and transferability of Qualified Teacher Status with the respective country’s Teachers’ Professional Body.
