Facilities
During your studies, you'll have access to specialist engineering facilities including Mechanical and Structural, Materials and Manufacturing, Fluids and Hydraulics, Process and Energy, Concrete and Geotechnical Testing, Electrical and Electronics, and Automation laboratories. These facilities feature industry-standard equipment for structural testing, advanced manufacturing, energy systems, hydraulics, geotechnical analysis, electrical engineering and Industry 4.0 automation. You'll also have access to Immersive Virtual Reality and dedicated CAD facilities to support engineering design, simulation and project work.
What Will I Study?
This BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering degree provides a strong foundation in the principles and applications of mechanical engineering, preparing you for careers in a range of engineering sectors. You'll study core areas including mechanics, thermodynamics, materials science, fluid dynamics and control systems, combining theoretical knowledge with practical laboratory experience and design-based learning.
The course offers opportunities to specialise in areas such as Aerospace Engineering, Renewable Technologies, and Mechatronics & Robotics. With an emphasis on innovation, problem-solving and real-world application, you'll develop the skills to analyse complex engineering challenges, design effective solutions and work within multidisciplinary teams.
The programme also includes an optional placement year, providing valuable industry experience. Students may also have opportunities to engage with the Wescott Space Cluster at Westcott Venture Park, gaining access to specialist facilities that support practical and research-based learning.
