Heritage MA

**Course overview**<br/>MA Heritage offers a unique opportunity for those hoping to build a career in the heritage sector from the heart of a World Heritage Site. We offer an innovative course which will train you in new digital skills relating to interpretation and heritage management, while also providing you with an awareness of the heritage sector that will allow you to develop as a practitioner for a range of careers. <br/>Our core modules will consider how the legacy of studying heritage has direct links to inequalities in society today (considering colonialism, Empire, hidden histories among other themes) as well as the notion of heritage management practices as ‘world making and future assembling’ with the capacity to ‘assemble radically different futures’ (Heritage Futures, 2020: https://heritage-futures.org/about/). You will then be able to select modules from a wide range of options that will offer you routes into specialising in Archaeology, Tourism, Education or Historical studies developing and tailoring your skillset towards a specific career path. <br/>UNESCO define heritage as “our legacy from the past, what we live with today, and what we pass on to future generations.”. Heritage shapes how we conceive of the world around us and this course will encourage you to think about our evolving, digital world, questions of sustainability, social justice and community, all with our historic environment at the heart. <br/><br/>**Why study MA Heritage?**<br/><br/>The heritage sector is an important source of economic prosperity and growth in the UK. Historic England highlight that the sector supports over half a million jobs and attracts millions of domestic and international tourists each year (Heritage and the Economy, 2020). <br/>Increasingly employment in the heritage sector requires post-graduate qualifications in order to specialise. This course can also enhance applications for teacher training, provide a link into the heritage sector for those undertaking a career change or returning to study, or offer a route into a career in the archaeological and planning sector. A Masters is essential for those wishing to progress onto a PhD and this could be the lynchpin in developing your skills as an interdisciplinary researcher.
