Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) (with Foundation Year) BSc (Hons)

This is a four-year programme that includes a year of foundational study and leads directly into the degree course. Our foundation year offers the chance to strengthen your skills, knowledge and confidence, before you advance to stage one of your honours degree.<br/><br/>Our professionally accredited BSc (Hons) Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) degree is designed in consultation with industry and will equip you with the technical, problem-solving, and soft skills that the fast-moving digital economy demands.<br/><br/>You’ll learn solid theoretical foundations and key concepts in computational thinking, computer architectures and their operating systems, machine learning, embedded systems and more. But Computer Science is a very practical field, and this course offers plenty of opportunities to gain hands-on project experience. You’ll be working in industry standard labs, engaging in practical exercises ranging from computer programming and software development to working with IoT devices and building and programming robotics units.<br/><br/>With extra opportunities to join our research centres and labs as an undergraduate intern, you’ll be able to gain experience of industry standards and best practices while working on cutting-edge technologies. Furthermore, industry experience can be obtained as part of your study by completing an optional one year placement. Our students have been successful in obtaining placements in nationally competitive schemes which include Microsoft, HP, General Electric, Jaguar Land Rover, GE Aerospace and more.<br/><br/>This degree has been <strong>accredited by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT.</strong> Accreditation is a mark of assurance that the degree meets the standards set by BCS. An accredited degree entitles you to professional membership of BCS, which is an important part of the criteria for achieving Chartered IT Professional (CITP) status through the Institute. Some employers recruit preferentially from accredited degrees, and an accredited degree is likely to be recognised by other countries that are signatories to international accords.<br/><br/><strong>Accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET)</strong> on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of partly meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer.<br/><br/>We offer this programme with two study options. You can choose four years full-time or five years full-time which would include a one-year professional placement before your final year that will give you hands-on experience in a real-life working environment. This year in industry would give you the practical skills that many employers seek, giving you a competitive edge upon graduation.
