Children's Nursing (pre-registration) MSc Master of Science - MSc (UG)

The MSc in Children’s Nursing is designed for people who already have a degree in any subject and are looking for progression and further challenges which can be achieved by undertaking a rewarding and lifelong career within the nursing profession.

Children’s nurses care for children and young people with acute or long-term health problems, mental ill-health, special needs or terminal illness. This role goes beyond the bedside, extending to supporting families and working with communities to promote lifelong health and wellbeing.

You will combine detailed theoretical study with excellent practical, clinical experience across a range of settings to gain a qualification that is highly regarded both professionally and academically. You will learn with expert clinical practitioners and leading researchers, opening up new career opportunities and enabling you to incorporate best practice and research into the care you provide.

You will study a range of theoretical and practical modules covering key principles and practices in children’s nursing, including:

* acute care, diagnostics and treatment

* long term care, recovery and rehabilitation

* leading and managing in healthcare practice.

You will learn alongside students from other nursing pathways and professional disciplines such as Speech and Language Therapy, Optometry and Radiography, encouraging a multi-disciplinary approach that reflects professional clinical practice.

The course combines theoretical study with clinical experience gained at London’s leading hospitals, trusts and community settings. The School's facilities feature an excellent Clinical Skills Centre, including simulated wards, where you can prepare for your practice experience. Whilst on clinical placements you will also benefit from exposure to the capital’s diverse population.

Through the course, you will spend around half your time on clinical placements in a variety of settings including:

* specialist units

* hospital wards

* primary and community care settings

* nurseries and special schools

* patients’ homes.

The course prepares you for an enjoyable and rewarding career caring for children, and their families, at different stages of the developmental spectrum who have acute and chronic illnesses, suffered injuries, had accidents and/or have a range of healthcare needs.
