Aural / Oral Sciences, Year 2

Freshers week was pretty non existent this year due to covid. Last years was really good, free fun fair rides and loads discounts for clubs, bars and restaurants. A good way to get us settled into new uni life. I personally don't stay in the uni's accomodation but I know a couple of people who do. I've not heard any complaints apart from the pricing. I don't actually study in the main uni I study in GDH, but the library is always spotless with loads of choices for books etc to borrow. Really good LDC resources if you find yourself needing some extra help with essay writing etc. I love my course, I attempted for 3/4 years to get in before I eventually did due to it being reallt competitive as there are only 13/14 slots every year. The lectures are quite heavy in first year to prepare you for osces and sat's. City life is good, nice buzz. It's a nice change of scenery to living in a more rural area.

Good night life in Glasgow but our union isn't used as much as Strathclyde's - needs more pool tables! The newly upgraded campus lookss great though. The teaching staff want the best for you and are very helpful by putting aside a lot of time for personal contact. I stay in a flat in Glasgow so can't comment on the halls nearest GCU but I've heard good things. Will miss staying in my flat with my mates 30 seconds walk away from the pubs

Top class social science lecturers who keep the topic interesting. Very good support and staff care for additional needs which may impact on studying. Great societies and additional opportunities and a chance to play your part in uni life. All you can ask for!

It was great !! There were lots of events and opportunities to meet new people. It is clean and there are lots of different places for people to stay around campus. The campus is very modern and clean , I love the library and all the different floors. I find my course very interesting and varied , with lots of different subjects. City life is great there and tons of different clubs bars and shops. Don’t leave all your work to Last minute and make sure you read your module handbooks

Building / Construction, Year 2

I never seen much construction related things. Just general activities etc. Cali court is known to be good with friends staff. Not sure about other accommodations. Library was always very useful. Student union isn't the best I've seen. Good lecturers make a big difference. Lecturers who act like they don't want to be there make you feel the same. Glasgow is always good for city life with so much to do around. A lot of good food places etc.

My university experience has been amazing. The staff go out of their way to help you with what ever you need and the students are all really friendly. The equipment they have is brilliant and the library is really easy to use with a wide range of books.

Ophthalmics, Year 2

Freshers week as such there isn’t really a lot organised by caley as a uni - freshers fayre, and info of our associated clubs are great though!

GCU is surrounded by different kinds of accommodation between the uni’s own (cali court - offering en suite and shared bathroom options), and private letting agencies. Dobbies point is beautiful and right next to the student association building!

Big fan of the saltire centre which is our library, the roof top garden has also opened up! There’s a gym attached, the SU bar is good for a chill time or burger etc during the day (veggie/vegan/halal options too), just doesn’t stay open late at night.

the vision centre is stunning; because we have all of the Scottish funding you couldn’t fault all of the equipment, how pristine everything is and the lecturers all put in a lot of work and there for questions/emails as needed.

Glasgow city-life wise you cannot get better than. There’s a scene and place for absolutely everyone, you won’t find a friendlier location with such a diverse mix of people toghether - so many clubs, bars, events, gigs, everything’s together and useful for transport too!

It’s absolutley a fantastic choice - i know most people doubt their choices at times but I’m very glad. It is very heavy on assessment and exams grounds in second year and to be prepared for it - and it’s definitely worth having done biology in school!

Marketing, Year 3 Plus

University has been one of the best experiences of my life, it's great to spend your week learning about something you love. My lecturers are always on hand to help whenever I need them which really takes the pressure off. The extracurricular activities have also really added to this experience, I'm a member of the fashion society and got the chance to go to New York for 5 days through this.
