Business Studies / Management, Graduate

Very good. Lots of opportunities to find out about the course and relevant societies to join. A good week to meet people on your course. I stayed in the newest accommodation. It was pricey but there was a big difference between it and the cheaper accommodation. I would recommend to stay in the newer accommodation to anyone starting at HW. Outstanding facilities. Especially Oriam the sports centre and gym. However the library was always tight on space even with the recent development. Very experienced lecturers that were top in their area of study. The course textbooks were written by the lecturers specifically for the course so we're really helpful for revising. Lecturers always applied content to everyday life giving a real insight into why it was relevant etc Amazing. It was always busy and always had something new to try and experience. However Edinbugh is one of the most expensive cities to be a student in in the UK. I didn't realise how much more expensive it was to study there before starting uni so would definitely advise people look into this before applying.

I love Heriot-Watt

(5)·By Jen T·Other· Oct 2018
I am loving my time at this university and I wouldn't change it for the world. Make sure you stay on campus in your first year as you'll meet loads of freshers in your first year. With a mixture of lectures, tutorials and labs the course and teaching is excellent. The lecturers are really approachable just incase you need help with anything. The library is also their to support you in your studies and it usually contains books you need for your subjects if you can't afford to buy your own copy. The only thing is there's not always enough for everyone Outside of the course and the University, Edinburgh is great. Great shopping, food, entertainment and culture. Everything you could ask for really. The student Union used to be fun when I was in my first year but now I live off campus, I rarely go there! There's lots of clubs and societies at Heriot-Watt and the option to start your own! There's lots of sports clubs like tennis and football.

I love accountancy and finance at HWU

(5)·By Accountant F·Other· Oct 2018
I am loving the experience at HWU! My course is brilliant because the lecturers have extensive professional experience in the real world, therefore, you can learn from that as well as the theory, you can practically apply. I have about 15 hours of lectures a week, which is the perfect amount for me. The university is in Edinburgh so there are plenty of opportunities for an active social life. The uni has a wide variety and range of societies to join ranging from the Investment society to the Salsa club. The SU is always organising events and when everyone turns up they are the best nights in town so make sure you don't miss the big ones!

Good open design so you get to meet loads of people and interact At the start can be pretty confusing but they are well numbered etc. Sports orium is absolutely amazing and gives a huge choice in stuff to do. All the lectures are really interactive and keep us involved Really nice city with other university's close too loads of student deals and activity's are always on and you get to meet thousands of people

Psychology / Criminology, Year 2

(5)·By Kayla M·Psychology· Jul 2021
The experience overall was really well thought out. There was lots of people available to help out if needed. The Accommodation varied depending on where you were. The only issue is you're out of the city centre so it's a bus journey to experience nightlife and restaurants. Facilities are fantastic, There is a gym on campus as well as a library. The library is very large with plenty of space even when busy. Food court also has many options Lectures are fairly small and intimate on my course. It's interactive and easy to participate if you wish to. City life is ace! Edinburgh is such a beautiful city with something for everyone. Everyone is super friendly.

Chemistry, Graduate

(4.8)·By Hazel M·Chemistry· Jul 2021
Very good they had lots of mixer events and nights out. They also did a lot of introduction to university stuff which was very helpful as going to univeristy was a big step. I think what made Heriot-Watt different is the volume of welling being events which really helped with the transition. The accommodation although expensive was very good thick walls so easy to study and lots of resources to use. I stayed in CM which is a new build so it was very warm and had ensuite however some of the older halls where not as good but cheaper. The libary was amazing you could book rooms for group study or single study which where sound proof and they have a large range of books. The student union was pretty good not as good as other unis but you have the whole of edinburgh to go out if you want a night out so not a big problem. The gym is expensive so I would not recommend it but some enjoyed it. I liked that the lectures/course are very well planned so at the start of the year you know exactly what to expect. The lectures are interactive and in nice open spaces. It was amazing I love edinburgh and have continued to stay after univeristy there is something for everyone here. The night life is great and has lots of variety as well as big arts festivals and gigs.

Chemistry, Third Year

I study part time and work in the industry 9-5 the rest of my time. It's pretty difficult but the lecturers are really accomodating. There's a lot of extracurricular stuff that I can get involved in even though I work a lot which helps me meet people. The course is really well structured to cover loads of interesting content and also stuff I wouldn't have thought about but turns out to be really useful.

Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Year 3 Plus

(4.8)·By Colum·Electrical Engineering· Oct 2018
Nights out in Edinburgh are always good, loads of clubs to choose from. Lecturers at heriot watt are really good and are always happy to help. Range of sports and societies available is incredible, playing sport was a great way to meet people in Year 1. Now that Oriam has opened sport is eve bigger. Job prospects for electrical engineering is very good, the university has a lot of links to industry and invites companies to come in and speak to students about what they do. This is beneficial to help students figure out what they want to do with their degree.
