Music, Year 1

(5)·By Neno J·Music· Oct 2018
I definitely chose the course for me - as studying Music for three years, has given me the experience.

My course includes recording my own music / being a sound teching for bands around the world -and the best part about it is the fact that it's so welcoming. Having some very talented people around you, and having the greatest tutors - who also have experience in the field / been around the world touring with huge bands.

My original plan was to study further music at Leeds College of Music but choosing tech over performance was the best option for me - more because I wanted to learn more about home studio recording, etc.

Education / Teacher Training, Year 3

(3)·By Beth M·Education / Teacher Training· Jul 2021
There was lots available, local businesses giving free goodies away, meeting new people and an exciting start for the next few years Accommodation is not available at Kendal college however this meant I can live in my own house Library is okay, lecture rooms are nice and the canteen is brilliant for late night lectures Interesting and relevant to practice. The information was always delivered well via PowerPoint and tutor speaking, and we also complete a range of modules to widen our knowledge There is a few shops however it is not a city vibe here

An Unbalanced Educational Experience

(1)·By E B·Art· Dec 2026
I studied Art and Design Level 3 at Kendal College from 2021 to 2023. The course content itself was acceptable, though structured very differently from GCSE Art. With appropriate guidance, I have always performed well academically and had not previously struggled in education.
I am dyslexic, though this was only formally diagnosed later at university. At Kendal College it remained listed as “suspected”, which resulted in no meaningful academic support. As a neurodivergent student, I did not receive adequate guidance or reasonable adjustments. I struggled throughout the course, and concerns were frequently dismissed rather than addressed by tutors.
During my time at the college, staff suggested I may be autistic, yet no follow-up, support plan, or referrals were offered. This lack of action reflects poor handling of neurodivergent students. Student support services were also ineffective and, at times, inappropriate in their responses to personal circumstances, demonstrating a lack of training and professionalism.
Facilities are mediocre. Equipment is limited, which is an issue given the large class sizes. There is no student accommodation, cafeteria options are minimal, and the overall student experience depends heavily on individual circumstances rather than institutional support. While Kendal is a pleasant town, there are limited activities or opportunities for young people.
Overall, Kendal College would benefit from improved staff training, particularly in relation to neurodivergence and student support. Accommodations for neurodivergent students are neither complex nor unreasonable to implement. Neurotypical students are likely to have a satisfactory experience, but for students requiring additional support, the provision is currently inadequate.
