Music, Year 1
My course includes recording my own music / being a sound teching for bands around the world -and the best part about it is the fact that it's so welcoming. Having some very talented people around you, and having the greatest tutors - who also have experience in the field / been around the world touring with huge bands.
My original plan was to study further music at Leeds College of Music but choosing tech over performance was the best option for me - more because I wanted to learn more about home studio recording, etc.

Education / Teacher Training, Year 3
An Unbalanced Educational Experience
I am dyslexic, though this was only formally diagnosed later at university. At Kendal College it remained listed as “suspected”, which resulted in no meaningful academic support. As a neurodivergent student, I did not receive adequate guidance or reasonable adjustments. I struggled throughout the course, and concerns were frequently dismissed rather than addressed by tutors.
During my time at the college, staff suggested I may be autistic, yet no follow-up, support plan, or referrals were offered. This lack of action reflects poor handling of neurodivergent students. Student support services were also ineffective and, at times, inappropriate in their responses to personal circumstances, demonstrating a lack of training and professionalism.
Facilities are mediocre. Equipment is limited, which is an issue given the large class sizes. There is no student accommodation, cafeteria options are minimal, and the overall student experience depends heavily on individual circumstances rather than institutional support. While Kendal is a pleasant town, there are limited activities or opportunities for young people.
Overall, Kendal College would benefit from improved staff training, particularly in relation to neurodivergence and student support. Accommodations for neurodivergent students are neither complex nor unreasonable to implement. Neurotypical students are likely to have a satisfactory experience, but for students requiring additional support, the provision is currently inadequate.
