This was part of our annual student nursing electives programme, which was also nominated for the Best Student Experience award, where students are supported to organise their own national or international placement of their choosing.<br/><br/><br/>- Our award-winning simulation suite (Student Nursing Times Awards 2019) offers realistic environments in which to learn, including hospital wards and community settings with family role-players.<br/><br/><br/>**About this course**<br/>This integrated masters course will prepare you to apply to the NMC Register as a Registered Nurse in the fields of childrens and learning disabilities nursing.<br/><br/>Youll learn to provide evidence-based care for children and young people (birth to age 18), working in partnership with their families and with other health and social care professionals, in hospital and community settings. You will also make a positive difference to the lives of people with learning disabilities. Youll study the factors that affect peoples health and wellbeing, the health inequalities in our society and how we can improve health outcomes for people with a learning disability and autistic spectrum conditions (ASC).<br/><br/>The course is a blend of university-based learning activities and clinical placements, providing you with the skills and knowledge you will need to become a nurse. Youll spend 50% of your time on placement in hospitals, in the community and in our skills and simulation labs developing valuable clinical skills. Youll work with patients, carers and a range of healthcare professionals. Placement opportunities include medical and surgical care environments, community and hospital-based learning disabilities services and community nursing, GP practice nursing and integrated community teams.<br/><br/>Placement opportunities are at Londons leading NHS hospitals such as Great Ormond Street, St Georges, Epsom and St Helier, Kingston, Royal Marsden, Chelsea and Westminster and Croydon Hospitals, South West London and St Georges Mental Health Trust, Surrey and Borders Partnership Trust, the Childrens Trust and the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability as well as in community settings.<br/><br/>At the end of your second year, youll have the opportunity to take an optional elective placement, nationally or internationally.<br/><br/>Youll be taught by a dynamic teaching team who are nationally and internationally recognised - they have contributed to key text books and achieved awards for their excellence in learning and teaching.<br/><br/>Throughout the course you will engage with people who use services and a range of healthcare professionals – in placements, on campus and in online learning.
