Northumbria Universitys Psychology with Criminology degree provides the perfect combination of skills to interpret human behaviour, investigate motivation and the causes of crime and victimisation, and the ways in which societies respond to crime.
Taught by research-active academics in modern facilities, you will develop an understanding of the theories behind the ways we think and behave, examining a wide range of domains within psychology and explore a range of psychology and criminology modules including contemporary issues in criminality and the criminal justice system. You will also have the opportunity to analyse global issues, from the point of view of both offender and victim. Teaching content is delivered across Northumbrias Health and Life Sciences and Arts, Design and Social Sciences faculties, opening doors to both Psychology and Criminology career paths.
A final year research project can be tailored towards your interests and careers aspirations and you will graduate with the knowledge and skills needed for a career in research, education or psychology, or within the criminal justice system.
To meet the requirements for Graduate Basis for Chartered membership (GBC) of the British Psychological Society, you must achieve a 2:2 or higher, and must pass the empirical psychology project.
Extended Degree
This extended degree provides an alternative route to higher education and supports those who don’t meet the standard entry requirements for an undergraduate degree. It includes a foundation year where you will explore a wide range of specialisms linked to psychology.
What will I learn in my Foundation Year?
The foundation year of this course covers psychology and its various disciplines including health occupational and organisational, and sport and exercise. Throughout the year you will gain an understanding of the domains, classic studies, career paths, underlying debates, controversies and career paths related to psychology. You will acquire knowledge and understanding of the fundamental principles of psychology and develop academic skills necessary to pursue your degree.
The foundation year of the course delivered at level 3 which develops your ability to study in Higher Education is not accredited. Subsequent levels and years are accredited and deliver the knowledge, competencies, and skills required to meet the specific course accreditation requirements that relate to the approved accredited award title.
