The course is heavy but engaging. The commute for me is long due to transport links.

University Life in London: The Queen Mary Experience

(5)·By Ruth B·Mathematics· Jun 2025
Studying at Queen Mary University offers the best of both academics and city life. Located in London, students benefit from access to cultural experiences, career opportunities, and a diverse community. However, the high cost of living and the campus being slightly removed from central London can be drawbacks for some. Despite these challenges, Queen Mary provides a unique and exciting university experience in one of the world’s most vibrant cities.

Great Student Life

(5)·By Badriya·Biotechnology· Jun 2025
I studied at Queen Mary University of London, and overall, my experience was quite positive. The campus in Mile End has a great community feel, with everything you need in one place—lecture halls, libraries, accommodation, and social spaces. Unlike other London universities scattered around the city, Queen Mary offers a proper campus vibe while still being in a prime London location.

Academically, the university is strong, particularly in subjects like Law, Medicine, and Engineering. Lecturers are generally knowledgeable and supportive, though, like any university, the quality of teaching can vary by department. The library is well stocked, but during exam season, it can get overcrowded, so finding study spaces can be a challenge.

Student life is vibrant, with plenty of societies, events, and nightlife options both on and off campus. The Students’ Union is active, and there are lots of opportunities to get involved in extracurricular activities. Being in East London, you’re also close to Shoreditch, Canary Wharf, and central London, which is great for both social life and career opportunities.

On the downside, the cost of living in London is high, and while the university does provide some affordable accommodation, it’s still pricier than many other UK universities. Some students also feel that certain admin processes, like enrollment and support services, could be more efficient.

A Land of Opportunities

My Experience Studying Maths at QMUL

Studying maths at Queen Mary University of London has been a pretty good experience so far. The course is well-organized and covers a nice mix of theory and practical material, which keeps it interesting.

The lecturers are definitely one of the best parts. They really know their subject and are always happy to help if you’re stuck or need extra support. The tutorials and office hours have been very helpful, especially when I’ve struggled with some of the more complicated topics.

The campus itself is great too. The library has loads of useful resources, and there are plenty of study spaces if you need a quiet place to work. Plus, it’s nice being in East London—it’s such a vibrant area, and there’s always something going on.

Overall, QMUL has been a solid choice for me. It’s challenging, but the support and resources make it manageable, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the rest of the course unfolds.
