Optional year in industry: The year in industry option will help you gain valuable work experience which will help you enhance your graduate employability prospects. During your placement you develop transferable skills such as communication, negotiation, teamwork, leadership, organisation, problem-solving, being able to work under pressure, self-reliance and commercial awareness. At the end of your work placement you return to complete your degree and prepare to enter employment with improved confidence.

Course overview: The demand for clean energy specialists is on the rise. Study the production, storage and transmission of energy, focusing on renewable energy and transition fuels, ready for a career in this growing sector.

According to the World Meteorological Organization, the supply of clean energy needs to double by 2030 if the world is to reach net zero targets by 2050, and the number of jobs in renewables is expected to reach 42m globally in this time.

You learn fundamental mechanical and electrical engineering principles and develop expertise in sustainable energy and clean technologies. Explore solar, wind, geothermal and tidal energy systems, transition fuels such as hydrogen, power storage, and distribution technologies.

This course is Accredited by the Energy Institute on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of demonstrating in part, the knowledge and understanding required for registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng). Applicants for CEng registration must also demonstrate the further learning required, this may be through achievement of an accredited masters or doctorate, or other learning including in the workplace.

After the course: Energy engineers work on projects to reduce energy use or costs. They research, design and build power generation plants, power storage facilities, develop processes to reduce carbon emissions and minimise environmental damage. They also carry out site inspections and energy surveys.
