Online uni done right

(5)·By Ciaran K·Computer Science· Jun 2023
I started the open university in 2019 and through the duration of my course I've been nothing but pleased with the course content and tutors. Throughout the pandemic when other unis struggled with online learning I felt totally comfortable with my open uni course. I would recommend it to anyone, especially people who want to learn and also have kids and a job like me.

Education / Teacher Training, Year 3

(5)·By Hannah L·Education / Teacher Training· Jul 2021
Was alot different than last year. But there were loads of online quizzes and competions There's is no accommodation as it's all distance learning There are good library facilities. There are many students clubs to join even though everyone is so far away. Still a good sense of community with the students association All the books you need are sent to you. Tutors are very helpful There's not much of a city life as I live in a quiet town in Devon.

Education / Teacher Training, Year 3

It was really good! Enjoyed meeting amazing people with inspiring stories It's from home, which is the best as I can be anywhere in the world and still study. So I am not tied to one location As it's online it's so easily accessible. The tutors are always there. And we have face to face and online tutorials every month which was great I love the comfortability of having online and face to face tutorials and everyone learns differently. Also that I can be anywhere and still be able to study I study from home

My experience with the Open University has been amazing so far. I am nearly completed my first year. It is great being able to work full time and study part time online. Anytime I have needed help my tutor has been there to guide me. I am looking forward to continue my journey with them.

Open university

(5)·By Demi G·STEM· Jun 2023
Have enjoyed studying with the open university. The support for students is very good and the website is more than easy to navigate but with ample information and an extensive library.

It has been an amazing way to graduate with a degree while completing other personal goals due to the structure of the university.
The courses are well set out with guides and I found the information understand at all times.

Classics and ancient history, Year 2

I have wanted to study and gain my degree for a few years but having my son put that on hold for a bit. Now the open university means I can study and look after my son so I will have gained my degree by the time he starts school. Despite studying alone and at home, I feel incredibly supported and helped by the university and my tutors. I have constant individual contact from tutors helping me along the way and the student support are really easy to contact and talk to. The website and the study planners are really well designed and easy to use, with studying being made as straightforward and easy as possible.

Brilliant

I have been studying with the open university for the past two years after a four year gap from study and I have loved it. From the support from the tutors, to the ability to be independent in my study, I believe that the open university is fantastic for those working full time, like myself.

I think having the Open University opens up so many opportunities for people who have other commitments. The flexibility they offer is fantastic and apeals to anyone! For a degree that is done mainly online the support you receive from your tutor and fellow students is second to none.

Open University - a route to discovery

(5)·By Jed T·Geography· Jun 2023
Open University is an alternative way of gaining your degree. No accommodation and maintenance costs to worry about, as you do your degree from the comfort of your home. Open University provide you with course materials (nicely parcelled and delivered to your door). The course books are supplemented with an online week by week study guide, containing additional information to that provided in your books. The online study guides also contain numerous activities to test your knowledge and refine your skills. Each month we complete a TMA based on the previous month learning block. We have a personal tutor who marks you TMA and provides support as required. There is a monthly tutorial that covers the material is each monthly block plus provide guidance on the TMA. We have an EMA at the end of the academic year which is similar to the TMA - bit marked externally. There are numerous forums to give help and support. Student also set up Watts App groups to help support each other. Open University is a fantastic way to get your qualifications and suits those that perhaps work or have care commitments, or for those that are perhaps retired and just want to enjoy the academic experience.
