If your dream is to work with young children, this course gives you a deep understanding of early years education, preparing you for a wide range of careers or for further study to become a teacher. You will develop an inter-disciplinary knowledge of how children develop in learning and thinking in their early years (0-7 years).
The course has been mapped to Graduate Practitioner Competencies and is classed as 'full and relevant' by the Department for Education. This means that, provided you successfully complete a total of 80 hours of practical experience and meet all the required competencies, you will have the status of Graduate Practitioner. To meet the requirements for practical experience, you undertake 80 days of University-organised placements over the course of the degree in settings across the age range (birth to 7 years).
Foundation Year\
Whether you’re returning to learning and require additional help and support to up-skill, or if you didn’t quite meet the grades to pursue an undergraduate course, taking a Foundation Year can provide a fantastic entry route to a degree-level qualification. The Foundation Year supports you to build up your academic writing skills and numeracy while exploring a range of subject-specific content so you are fully prepared for the core three-year course. You will need to successfully complete the Foundation Year to progress on to the first year of your degree.
Course accreditation/endorsement
The course gives you a DfE-recognised (Department for Education) Graduate Practitioner qualification alongside your degree. It is also endorsed by the Early Childhood Degree Studies Network.
