**Course Overview**<br/><br/>Are you interested in the field of education and how children learn? Perhaps considering working with children and young people as a teacher or associated professional? Our degree in Education Studies is an ideal route into the children’s workforce.<br/><br/>**Why choose us?**<br/><br/><br/>- Our programmes offer you the chance to pursue particular areas of interest and develop specialisms in areas such as inclusion and special needs. <br/><br/><br/>- There are opportunities to go on international trips; previously students have gone to destinations such as South Africa, Cyprus and China to study their education systems. You could choose to take time out to spend a year teaching abroad with one of our international partners.<br/><br/><br/>- You’ll have opportunities to undertake work placements in each of your three years of study in an educational setting (nursery, primary, secondary or further education/ training).<br/><br/><br/>**What youll do**<br/><br/><br/>- The course is ideal for anyone who aspires to join the teaching profession, but it is not a teacher training programme. It also offers routes into non-teaching careers or postgraduate research.<br/><br/><br/>- You could gain international work experience in your second or third year by getting involved in projects run by the University’s Centre for Volunteering and Community Leadership. These modules are accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM).<br/><br/><br/>- You could choose to take time out to spend a year teaching abroad with one of our international partners. In 2019-20 students worked as assistant teachers at schools in Madrid and Barcelona.<br/><br/><br/>**Future Careers**<br/><br/>Many of our graduates go on to become teachers. They often go on to gain places on primary PGCE courses (teacher training) or, increasingly, undertake schools-based training. Our graduates also enter a range of other professional roles.
