Biology / Biotechnology, Year 2

The introductory lectures for biomedical sciences were interesting and the course organisers all seemed welcoming. We also got to choose an elective course in freshers week from a very wide variety of courses which meant I could also learn about something I was interested in beyond the scope of my course. Pollock Halls is a nice place to stay. It is clean and the food is decent - similar to school canteen food. The people are often quite cliquey though. There are a few university libraries in edinburgh to choose from - so there is a variety of places to choose to study. The libraries are modern inside and there are some good views from the windows of the main library. There is also a good library on the Kings Buildings campus so you will always have a place to study. The lecturers were friendly and approachable. I always felt I could ask questions and they were responded to well. The feedback, however, which we got on assignments was not always that helpful and felt rushed a lot of the time. This is frustrating when you put a lot of time into an essay and the feedback isn't helpful. The city of edinburgh is one of the most beautiful cities I've ever visited and the university is right there in the city centre. The night life is also really good - there are loads of clubs and pubs to go out to with different student nights. It isn't that cheap but not that expensive.

I am enjoying university life and having a very positive experience. I am enjoying more independence and being more responsible for my learning. I have also found that the university have a very strong support system and a good mentor system. The work to do and where to find it is also clearly laid out.

Geography, Year 2

Difficult for the first few days to meet new people. Really picked up on the 3rd day. The nights out were really fun and they allowed for just over a week of free time to settle in I was in Holland D, which was just renovated and really modern. An ensuite room. It was fairly small however The student union bar is fairly big but not really widely used unless for a sports social. The library and gyms are very good. Lecture halls are as you'd expect, can fit hundreds of students Interesting lectures. Enough work to be engaged but not overbearing. Weekly tutorials where you can meet peers and have close contact hours with post graduate students Amazing city. Small enough to get around easily, but full of attractions like the castle and the beach. Waverly train station makes it easy to access, and there are endless pubs and clubs etc

University is amazing. It gives you so much more freedom than what you had at high school. Much more independent learning and more opportunities to do extra curricular activities to broaden your skills.

Economics, Graduate

Met loads of people and was able to meet my class that I would be studying. I met friends in my class that I stayed friends with the whole way through uni. Very nice, depending on where you choose to be. I did self catering so I could cook for my self Library is fantastic. Great facilities with computers and study materials. World class gym. Course was very challenging, I didn't get board. Lecturers were world renowned in their field and they were willing to help as long as you ask. Edinburgh is the best city to live in. It is safe and you can walk everywhere, amazing place for a student to live in.

Veterinary Sciences, Year 3

Freshers weeks was amazing. There were so many fun activities both with the main uni and the vet school. I meet so many amazing people and had a great time The accomodation was really good and they had some options for every need. There was a good price range and both catered and no catered choices The facilities are really good. The library is lovely. The vet school building has loads of great features and some really great study spaces Our course is very interactive with loads of practical classes. We get a lot of hands on time with animals. Our lecturers are also amazing and really go the extra mile to help us out The city is great. Everything is within walking distance making it all very accessible. There are loads of cute independent cafes which is great and some really cool shops
