Your time on the course will be divided between learning theory and applying your knowledge in the clinical environment, with clinical placements providing opportunities for you to put what you’ve learned into practice in a variety of settings.
These include children's wards, children’s hospitals, accident and emergency departments, and neonatal intensive care. Opportunities are also available to work with specialist nurses in a range of community settings, including children’s hospices, health centres and mainstream and specialist schools.
You'll be taught by a team who really understand what it is like to be a children's nurse and are able to demonstrate the latest techniques and procedures whilst supporting you as you put these skills and qualities into practice.
The University’s new Daphne Steele Building on the site of the National Health Innovation campus, allows you to benefit from specialist clinical teaching facilities and world-leading research facilities.
Our Public Partnership Group (PPG) and Health and Wellbeing Academy work together to support your development as a compassionate, person-centred professional. You’ll engage with service users and carers through lectures, discussions, and simulations. Their lived experiences will help to build your communication skills, empathy, and the critical thinking needed to deliver outstanding care across diverse communities. While our Health and Wellbeing Academy offers hands-on placement opportunities through initiatives like Get Set Goal and Restart a Heart. These experiences will help you build skills in communication, public health, leadership, and teamwork while making a real impact in the community.
Following successful completion of this Nursing (Child) degree course, you can register with the NMC and work as a Registered Nurse for Children, marking the start of a potentially fruitful career ahead.
