Course Overview

Psychology sheds light on how people act, react, and interact. This course provides the opportunity to learn about how the human mind works.

How can we improve our ability to detect lies? What role does stress play in our lives? How can professionals improve their performance at work? Or how can we improve the mental health and wellbeing of society?

Our BSc Psychology degree offers the answers to these questions and more. Discover how to use scientific methods to measure, understand and explain attitudes, beliefs, decisions, and behaviour.

You’ll study the core areas of psychology, cognition, psychobiology, social psychology and development. This provides the basis for the core syllabus of the British Psychological Society (BPS).

Our flexible programmes allow you to tailor your studies as you progress. You can choose to specialise in forensic psychology, clinical psychology, child development or neuropsychology. .

You will be taught via block learning, concentrating on one module at a time. This allows you to focus your studies, gaining a deeper understanding. This will help to ensure that you have a grounding in those subjects before progressing to the next area to study. Assessment is based around coursework with no formal examinations. Our intention is to stretch you, not stress you. Coursework mirrors, where possible, the tasks that you might undertake in a graduate role.

Upon completion of the degree, you will have recognition from the BPS providing you graduate with at least a 2:2 degree. This allows you to progress to postgraduate study in psychology or enter employment.

What you'll do

* In your second year, you can focus on two specialist areas of the subject, most of which reflect professional chartered routes. These include Forensic Psychology, Clinical Psychology, and Neuropsychology.

* You’ll make the most of exceptional psychology facilities. Including our child observation suite, developmental cognitive neuroscience lab and brain imaging lab.

* You can choose to take a sandwich year. Where you'll study at one of our partner universities abroad or work on placement. These opportunities help you develop workplace skills and experience.

Accreditations

* This course is accredited by the BPS, the learned and professional body, incorporated by the Royal Charter, for Psychology in the UK. We will provide you with the breadth and depth of knowledge that allows you to graduate with Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) provided you achieve at least a lower second class honours degree.
