This five-year degree aims to develop students into practising medical doctors. Upon graduation, students will be eligible to register provisionally with the General Medical Council (GMC) and begin work as a doctor within the UK Foundation Programme (subject to successful application to the UK Foundation Programme Office). Alongside traditional medical training, the programme will also encourage students to develop wider skills in research, leadership, and an understanding of public health in a rural and coastal context.

A level

To include Biology (or Human Biology). We do not accept general studies, critical thinking, global perspectives or citizenship studies. A Level resits are permitted. Resits must achieve AAA, or if contextual, AAB where one of the A grades must be in Biology. Resits are usually expected to have been completed within two years of the initial sit.

Scottish Higher

To include Biology, Chemistry, Maths and English Language. A grade of A must be achieved in Biology. This qualification is acceptable when combined with and Advanced Higher grade of A in Biology. At least 6 Grade As in National 5 qualifications (or GCSE) including Biology, Chemistry, and a minimum of Grade B in both Maths and English Language.

Access to HE Diploma

GCSE/National 4/National 5

At least six GCSEs at Grade 7 or above (or equivalent where A*-C grades are awarded) to include Biology, Chemistry or Double Science. A minimum of Grade 6 is required in both English Language and Mathematics. Where applicants have already completed their A Levels to meet the required entry standard, they will only require GCSE English Language, Mathematics and Chemistry (or double science) at Grade 6, unless the subject has been taken at A Level. GCSE resits are permitted but must be awarded by the time of application.

Scottish Advanced Higher

Must be in Biology. This qualification is acceptable when combined with Scottish Higher grades AAABB including Biology, Chemistry, Maths and English Language, with a Grade A in Biology. At least 6 Grade As in National 5 qualifications (or GCSE) including Biology, Chemistry, and a minimum of Grade B in both Maths and English Language.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

To include Higher Level Biology Grade 6 and at least 6 Grade As in IB Middle Years or GCSE to include Biology and Chemistry at Grade 6 (A) and English Language and Maths at Grade 5 (B)

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)

Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017)

A H1 must be achieved in Biology. H2 required in Leaving Certificate English (Higher or Ordinary level). Applicants must have studied Biology, Chemistry, English Language, Maths, plus two further subjects for the Irish Junior qualification. Certificates will be required to evidence these.

Bachelor Degree

You can apply for this course if you already have a degree: - You will need a 2:1 classification in a relevant undergraduate UK Honours degree and also have achieved Grade 5's in GCSE Mathematics and English Language and Chemistry or equivalent, unless the subject has been taken at A Level or is reflected in the degree transcript. Please contact admissions@lincoln.ac.uk for enquiries regarding relevant degrees. - Alternatively, you will need a 2:1 classification in any Honours degree, but you will also need to meet the A Level and relevant GCSE requirements in order to be eligible. - If you're currently studying for a degree, you can apply for medicine during any year of your existing studies if your meet the standard A Level and GCSE entry requirements. - If you need your degree result to be able to meet the academic entry requirements, you may apply through UCAS at the beginning of your final year of study. In these cases, your offer to study Medicine will be conditional on achieving the necessary degree entry requirements.
