What if your passion for linguistics could help improve the way we understand international history, culture and politics? <br/><br/>Having completed a masters degree and agreed your topic with a supervisor, you will continue your research exploring themes from our wide field of specialisms:<br/><br/><br/>- Sociolinguistics <br/><br/><br/>- History of linguistics<br/><br/><br/>- Pragmatics and interactional linguistics <br/><br/><br/>- Discourse analysis<br/><br/><br/>- Translation and interpreting studies<br/><br/><br/>- Corpus linguistics <br/><br/><br/>- Applied linguistics<br/><br/><br/>- Historical linguistics<br/><br/><br/>You may research any modern language but the school has particular expertise in; French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Serbian-Croatian, as well as expertise in Italian and Chinese.<br/><br/>Attending research seminars and special lectures will be an important part of your doctoral journey. You will also have the opportunity to deliver papers of your own. The culmination of your work will be a thesis that makes a significant contribution to research in linguistics.<br/><br/>The University of Nottingham is one of eight universities making up the AHRC-funded Midlands4Cities Doctoral Training Partnership (M4C).
