BSc Speech and Language Therapy prepares you for a rewarding career working with people who have communication and swallowing disorders in healthcare and education settings. This pre registration programme equips you with the knowledge, skills and professional values required to practise as a Speech and Language Therapist across the lifespan.
The course is accredited and approved by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and the Health and Care Professions Council. Successful graduates are eligible to apply for registration with the HCPC and practise as autonomous Speech and Language Therapists. You may also be eligible to apply for a £5000 NHS bursary. What you’ll study
You’ll build a solid foundation in speech and language therapy theory and practice, while gaining professional skills valued across health and education sectors, including assessment of communication and swallowing, therapeutic intervention planning, partnership working, reflective practice, clinical reasoning and professional ethics.
Modules offered can vary each year but may include:
• Foundations of Professional Practice for Speech and Language Therapy
• Communication Process and Building Blocks
• Development of Eating and Drinking and Swallowing Skills Across the Lifespan
• Working in Partnership 1
• Practice Placement 1
How you’ll learn
You will learn through:
• In person and recorded lectures integrating theory with practice
• Case based learning focused on the experiences of service users and carers
• Group work, peer supported learning and reflective practice
• Workshops using assessment tools and technologies applied to clinical practice
• Practice placements including simulated learning and experiential activities
You will also use a Virtual Learning Environment to support your learning and assessment throughout the programme.
