Gain an advanced understanding of how drugs interact with receptors, cells, tissues, and whole organisms.<br/><br/>Your four-year integrated masters, based in our multi-million pound, state-of-the-art Life Sciences building, will equip you with a sound scientific knowledge base in pharmacology to FHEQ level 7 and in biochemistry and physiology to at least FHEQ Level 5. <br/><br/>You will graduate with the research skills vital for further study and the tools needed for a broad variety of professions* including laboratory-based research, jobs in the pharmacology and neuroscience sector, and the media.<br/><br/>You will have the opportunity to select a year in employment placement, to gain experience in an industrial setting.<br/><br/>You will also gain extensive experience from a variety of field trips in possible locations like the New Forest, Spain, and Belize and will become a part of our research community, spending your final year embedded alongside one of our leading research groups. <br/><br/>You will complete extended projects in a specialised area of your choice and work alongside, and be taught by, leading academics in their research fields. They will support you in developing a knowledge of life at different levels - from molecules and cells, to whole communities and global ecosystems.<br/><br/>*99% of Biological Sciences graduates were in employment or further study 15 months after graduation (Graduate Outcomes 2020/2021).

We normally consider applicants who offer at least 1 Advanced Higher. Applicants presenting with only Highers will be considered on a case by case basis. Where Highers are taken over two years it might be expected that higher grades are achieved, particularly in any specific subjects required. For example, S5 – S6 (2 years): AABBB (A in specific subject) or S6 (1 year): ABBBB (A in specific subject). Unless a more advanced level (Higher or Advanced Higher) is specified in the stated entry requirements, all applicants will be required to have achieved a pass in Mathematics and English at Standard Grade, Grade 3 or National 5, Grade C, the equivalent of GCSE Grade C/ Grade 4.

Offers will be based on exams being taken at the end of S6. Subjects taken and qualifications achieved in S5 will be reviewed. Careful consideration will be given to an individual’s academic achievement, taking in to account the context and circumstances of their pre-university education.
