You could also make use of your skills at a consultancy firm.<br/><br/>This degree is for you if you have a primary interest in maths and want to develop your interest in computing. The course provides a foundation in maths, covering algebra, calculus and statistics, as well as the practical and theoretical aspects of computer science. You’ll learn about algorithms and programming and investigate problems, such as establishing that a complicated program works in a variety of circumstances.<br/><br/>On this course you’ll:<br/><br/><br/>- Develop your abilities in problem-solving, accurate calculation and logical argument<br/><br/><br/>- Develop your skills in programming practice including object orientation<br/><br/><br/>- Use our student centre, a dedicated learning and social space, exclusively for maths students<br/><br/><br/>- Use mathematical and computational packages such as Python and the statistics package R<br/><br/><br/>You’ll be taught through a combination of lectures and workshops, by leading researchers in fields, such as group theory, computational optimisation and game theory.<br/><br/>With this degree there is a huge range of potential job opportunities available. You could end up as part of the team writing the next version of Windows, devising a computer-based stock-control system for a manufacturer or writing a secure web-based customer interface for a music distributor.

We normally consider applicants who offer at least 1 Advanced Higher. Applicants presenting with only Highers will be considered on a case by case basis. Where Highers are taken over two years it might be expected that higher grades are achieved, particularly in any specific subjects required. For example, S5 – S6 (2 years): AABBB (A in specific subject) or S6 (1 year): ABBBB (A in specific subject). Unless a more advanced level (Higher or Advanced Higher) is specified in the stated entry requirements, all applicants will be required to have achieved a pass in Mathematics and English at Standard Grade, Grade 3 or National 5, Grade C, the equivalent of GCSE Grade C/ Grade 4
