About this course<br/>Become a nurse with BSc Nursing (Mental Health) at the University of Southampton, a course ranked 3rd in the UK and 13th in the world (QS World Rankings by Subject 2026), and be there when it matters.<br/><br/>On your three-year BSc Nursing (Mental Health) degree youll develop the knowledge and skills needed to provide high-quality, evidence-based care to people and their families experiencing challenges to their mental health through an extensive range of placements, simulated practice in our specialist facilities, and clinical skills teaching by world-class educators and practitioners.<br/><br/>Key features of the course:<br/>• Learn how to deliver person centred care using trauma informed approaches, and respond with compassion to the unique needs and lived experiences of all people and their families.<br/><br/><br/><br/>• Join a supportive community of nursing students and academics who can assist you at every stage of your journey, from student to Nurse<br/><br/><br/><br/>• Graduate from this course with the opportunity to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Registered Nurse (Mental Health)<br/><br/><br/><br/>• Learn from experienced registered nurses, people with lived experience and train in our modern facilities, as well as through placements in various healthcare settings, such as: early intervention teams, community mental health services, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) assessment clinics, child and adolescent mental health services, inpatient wards, mother and baby units (supporting postnatal mental health), and forensic mental health services.<br/><br/><br/><br/>Student support<br/>Youll be supported from day one, both during your time studying on campus and during your placements, by your personal support network of academics: your Personal Academic Tutor (PAT), a senior tutor, and by your fellow students via initiatives like our excellent Student buddy scheme and the initiative of Schwartz Rounds designed to support health-care staff to deliver compassionate care by helping them to reflect on their work in groups of peers.<br/><br/>Further information<br/>Youll graduate from this course with the opportunity to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Registered Nurse (Mental Health).<br/><br/>The NHS Learning Support Fund may assist your journey to becoming a registered healthcare professional. We normally consider applicants who offer at least 1 Advanced Higher. Applicants presenting with only Highers will be considered on a case by case basis. Where Highers are taken over two years it might be expected that higher grades are achieved, particularly in any specific subjects required. For example, S5 – S6 (2 years): AABBB (A in specific subject) or S6 (1 year): ABBBB (A in specific subject). Unless a more advanced level (Higher or Advanced Higher) is specified in the stated entry requirements, all applicants will be required to have achieved a pass in Mathematics and English at Standard Grade, Grade 3 or National 5, Grade C, the equivalent of GCSE Grade C/ Grade 4.

Pass, with overall score of 28, with 14 points at Higher Level International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP): The University of Southampton accepts the IBCP for entry to their degree programmes, recognising the value of combining academic skills with practical skills, providing a solid preparation for university level work. Offers will be made on the individual components of the IBCP. Applicants not taking the full IBCP but presenting with a combination of a Level 3 vocational qualification and IB Certificates may still be considered. Offers will be made on the individual Diploma Course subject(s) and the career-related study qualification. The CP core will not form part of the offer. Where there is a subject pre-requisite(s), applicants will be required to study the subject(s) at Higher Level in the Diploma course subject and/or take a specified unit in the career-related study qualification. Applicants may also be asked to achieve a specific grade in those elements.
