Why choose this course\
Politics and international relations is about the dynamics of power, and how to navigate those dynamics for both domestic and transnational ends.
* Take the opportunity to get industry-ready with our award-winning [Professional Training placements](https://www.surrey.ac.uk/professional-training-placements).
* Our course will introduce you to cross-cutting questions of transnational political movements, war and change, and how national policy can be harnessed to address global challenges.
* Along the way you’ll be able to address the social and political issues behind the biggest debates in contemporary politics and international affairs.
* We’re nationally and internationally recognised for teaching innovation, with particular specialisms in simulations and game-based learning.
We’re preparing you for the future by integrating AI into every course, building digital skills, confidence and creativity that employers value in tomorrow’s workplace.
What you will study\
On our BSc (Hons) Politics and International Relations, you’ll receive a grounding in both these disciplines, and come to understand the relationship between them. You’ll examine questions of global significance, develop an understanding of the theories and concepts used to understand global politics, and explore the interplay of national and international dynamics.
We’ll show you how decisions are made – from government institutions to civil society – so you can learn how political views are shaped and changed.
You will have the opportunity to develop and apply primary research skills across your modules.
Alongside your studies, you can get involved in politics and international relations. We invite expert practitioners from international organisations, political parties, the media and civil society organisations to deliver guest lectures and speak to our students.
There are plenty of class trips, negotiation simulations and networking events for you to join. Our students engage actively in societies, volunteer in the local community, and support the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Our degree has Bachelor of Science status, in recognition of its technical analytical components that are highly valued by an increasingly diverse range of employers in the knowledge economy. You will develop transferable qualitative and quantitative research skills, and learn how to design and carry out research projects using market-leading data analysis software.
