Health and Social Care Practice

This programme is suitable for:

Individuals seeking a career in health and social care practice across a range of professional settings.
Learners wanting a stand-alone higher education qualification or those intending to progress to the second year of a relevant university degree or a Level 5 HND.
Those wishing to gain a recognised HE qualification while continuing to work.
Study methods
The HNC has a Total Qualification Time (TQT) of 1,200 hours, which represents the average time required to complete the qualification.

40% (480 hours) is delivered on campus through lectures and workshops
Approximately 15 hours per week: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
Time is split between taught lessons and supported research-based workshops.

60% (720 hours) is dedicated to independent study, including:
Completing assignments
Self directed research
Study in the Learning Resource Centre (LRC).

In addition, students must complete a minimum of 225 hours of work placement within the health and care sector.
How is the course assessed?
Assessment methods include:

Coursework assignments and Pearson set assessments
Structured tasks and written reports
Written tests
Practical activities such as work placement assessments, presentations, and oral examinations.

For students to be eligible for funding from Student Finance England, they must be studying on an eligible course at a provider registered with the Office for Students (OfS). The OfS has published providers on its Register and HRUC (and HCUC as we were know before Jan 2023) has been registered since 10 December 2018.
