This Wildlife Ecology and Conservation degree draws on years of dedicated research and teaching expertise in terrestrial ecology and conservation and marine ecology and conservation . Here at Bangor University you will gain detailed understanding of wide ranging and interlinked aspects of ecology and conservation - with an emphasis on terrestrial and marine environments. Important themes on this degree include ecology and evolution, as well as behaviour change, evidence-based conservation, human-wildlife coexistence, and international conservation policy. We offer a large choice of optional modules from across the natural and ocean sciences which will enable you to study the subjects which interest you most. You can choose diverse and fascinating topics ranging from herpetology to ornithology, applied botany to forest ecology, marine conservation, and exploitation, or the human aspects of conservation.
Wildlife populations around the world have fallen by nearly 70% since 1970. There is increasing recognition that conservation efforts must be more effective and better focused to slow, and ultimately reverse, the loss of biodiversity. To meet these challenges, there is a pressing need for conservation specialists who possess strong ecological knowledge as well as an understanding of the socio-economic factors that drive successful conservation. A degree from Bangor University will equip you with the expertise, practical skills and critical insight needed to make a real difference in addressing this urgent global issue.
Our location, nestled between the Menai Strait and Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, offers unrivalled opportunities for learning about ecology and conservation outside the classroom. We run practical classes in a wide variety of habitats, from the coast to the mountains and in a variety of conservation settings such as zoos and nature reserves. We run optional field courses in tropical conservation which makes use of our decades of international collaborations in tropical regions.
‘Placement Year’ and 'International Experience Year’ options are available for this course. You will have the opportunity to fully consider these options when you have started your course at Bangor and can make an application for a transfer onto such a pathway at the appropriate time. You can find more information about these options on our website and if you have any questions, please get in touch.
If you don’t have the required qualifications for this degree-level course or are looking to re-enter education after time away from study, then a Foundation Year Programme might be the right choice for you. Please see Environmental Science (with Foundation Year) F90F.
