Education / Teacher Training, Year 3

(5)·By Katherine H·Education / Teacher Training· Jul 2021
The events on campus were good and an amazing opportunity to meet fellow students and the SU team. Freshers week enabled me to familiarise myself with where I would be living and find societies that I could join. The events were varied which enabled you to do what you wanted to do but you weren't being persuaded to attend all. The accommodation on campus is very nice. The rooms have a nice amount of room. Being close to other students helped me to make friends and find those with similar interests. The library is amazing, if they don't have an item in stock, they will let you know when it is. Classrooms are easy to find, very spacious and allowed easy group work. The students union is small and cosy which makes you feel welcome and at home. The course was really insightful and gave me a wide view of education. What we learnt in the first year is built on through second and third year which helps because you already have the prior knowledge. Lincoln has a good city life. There is usually always something going on which is available to students. Usually, the night clubs offer a massive help, however there have also been Covid safe activities, e.g. crazy golf.

History, Year 2

(5)·By Abby E·History· Jul 2021
Really good, lots of activities planned to get students involved and mingling. Living in halls was amazing, I was two minutes from my lectures and from campus restaurants and the SU. The accommodation was excellent, a double bed with an en suite, plenty of storage, large kitchen and lounge, TV and 24/7 security. The facilities are excellent, the classrooms are fully equipped for all degrees. The SU is a perfect size for its function, and is a central part of campus. The sports centre is a little small, but is fully functional. The course is varied, with modules ranging from the Egyptian period to the 1980s. The course is delivered well, utilising different methods of teaching and assessment. Lincoln is a vibrant student city, with many clubs and bars on offer for all students. There are a good amount of shops, such as Primark and Superdrug, which are affordable for students.

English Studies, Year 2

Very entertaining. Always had events running on campus and events every night at clubs and pubs in the city. Was always a wide range of things for those who drank or didnt drink. Was very inclusive and fun. Always had a good time at all of the events, made lots of memories. Made the transition into uni so much better. For a small university, the accommodation was perfect. Even the cheapest option was lovely. Luckily had an en suite flat, was always clean. Nothing was broken and lacked imperfections. Library is not the biggest. Could be bigger. Sports areas are perfect for this who do sport. Student union was quite small, not very much going on there. The course is good with the range of assessment types. No exams, more essays and portfolios. Lectures are inclusive, tutors treat students as humans rather than numbers, they get to know you on personal levels and adapt their sessions to fit everyone's needs. Lincoln as a city is amazing. Gorgeous sights to see all round, adequate shopping with a good number of clubs and pubs to entertain.

Support from BGU

(4.8)·By Lucy R·English Studies· Jun 2023
What I found useful in navigating university life is taking control of your education to the greatest extent you can, I have grown confident in reaching out to lecturers and tutors that I need specific help from and have learnt to not feel as guilty or troublesome in asking for advice or help with an issue, they are there to help you and clarify as much as they can. Whilst my university experience was hindered my COVID and national strikes, I found this to aid me in the guilt or disappointment in my grades where I knew we as students and the university staff were under pressure to deliver during this time, I found relief in that even though I may not have succeeded in achieving the best marks available, I treated any little victories as great successes where I knew I did everything I can and spoke to everyone I could for advice and support.

Whilst I did not also have an ideal social life at university and did not participate in any social clubs due to unfortunate anxiety and depression, I have known many people that have made great friends through these options available and would take great consideration next time in getting involved if I could redo the experience.

I have liked the diversity of texts and modules covered and found that the jump from Alevel English Literature to undergraduate literature was not as daunting once I began my studies, and found that a focalised interest in choosing a single honours degree was incredibly manageable for me and found great support through lecturers and the learning facilities.

The university is very welcoming and the courses are great I just wish the SU were more involved and events were better advertised! I never know what's going on with SU events, societies or just things going on in the university in general.

The in halls accommodation is also lovely and well kept. The staff are always on hand to help you with whatever you need. Whether that be cleaning, broken appliances, or if you're having a rough night and need support!

Education / Teacher Training, Year 3

(4.5)·By Elizabeth B·Education / Teacher Training· Jul 2021
There was lots of things planned by the university, with links to UOL due to the size of BGU. Things for people who didn't like clubbing (which I thought was amazing). Also, you could buy a wristband to get discounted ticket entry's. Amazingly clean facilities, everyone in my accommodation had a double bed and an en-suite. You were matched up in each block with people who lived a similar lifestyle to you- with regards to going out. There was 24hr on site security for us you had any issues, along with a matron at night. Amazingly stocked library with a teacher resource centre- this was utilised a lot by myself. I never used the student union, however people say that it was a well priced bar and they put some good events on. We are split up into smaller groups for a more personal experience with lecturers. We have lots of hands on learning, in the form of placements, which is amazing for our course. Lincoln is a lovely city with many restaurants, clubs, bars and even a beirkeller. Also, at the heart, we have the Cathedral and castle- an amazing day out!

English Studies, Year 2

Very good, there was lots of activities for people to participate in. Luckily I was there prior coronavirus because we were lucky enough to be able to mix in pubs and clubs- a very welcoming environment. Lovely, the rooms on campus are cosy, yet have ample space. Everything is very well laid out, no complaints. Good, everything is kept to a very high standard. Nothing is too far away- all wishing good walking distance but yet doesn't feel cramped. I like it Enjoyable topics, and great professors, very well laid out lecture and seminar style education. Lots of help is constantly offered throughout the year leading up to exam time. Lincoln is quite small for a city, so it has a very homely fee to it- wasn't overwhelming to change at all. It has everything you need within walking distance so nothing is too far away.
