Education / Teacher Training, Graduate

(5)·By Beth E·Education / Teacher Training· Jul 2021
The most incredible experience, top 5 of my whole life! I met the most incredible friends and settled into the most amazing university life. Keele really is the life and soul of the party and I loved every single second of what Keele had to offer during freshers week (and for the 4 years that followed!) - The best! I stayed in halls for two/four years I was at Keele: my first year and my third year. I loved staying in halls. I was able to make the place my own (pictures hung up, things stuck on the wall etc etc.). I was extremely happy with the people I lived with and I felt content with my environment and surroundings. The university accommodation is close to the campus and therefore lectures etc. Everyone is very friendly and I had the time of my life! The library was fantastic! It is HUGE. I would enter the library and spend a lot of time in there. I was pleased with the resources offered to me and the space in there is insane (and extremely modern too!). The classrooms are comfortable, modern and spacious, which I was happy with. The SU ... the SU was my favourite place! It is the BEST night out. Everyone knows everyone and there is therefore such a community feel to the place. Everything is extremely well priced and the food on offer is also incredible. The SU was my favourite place on campus by far - some of the best memories of my entire life were had in that place, amazing. I LOVED my course (Education and film studies, followed by a PGCE at Keele to study primary education). The lectures were helpful, funny, highly intelligent and inspiring people. They offered 1:1 support on a regular basis and would always be there for guidance both with regards to academia, but also for social and emotional support too. I learned so much on my course and achieved a very respected First Class Honours degree. The course I took truly shaped my experience at Keele, the offer of exam based modules and modules which heavily relied on coursework enables the course to be catered for all. I found the learning aspect very fun and very helpful in shaping my future career in teaching. I am very grateful to Keele for this. I LOVE the city. I loved the city that much I actually decided to stay here and began my career in teaching here too. There are amazing nightclubs, restaurants, cinemas ... everything! There is always something to do. Lovely walks around the Keele campus and local areas such as Trentham Gardens. Escape rooms, tea rooms, a Ninja Warrior course, the list goes on and on. Keele is also close to Liverpool and Manchester, just a train journey away! The best place.

Law, Year 3

Keele university has offered an array of exciting entertainment and nights out at the students union with many big acts for reasonable prices. All the nights out have been governed by excellent security and support staff to create a safe and enjoyable environment. The staff at Keele university, particularly my personal tutor, have all gone out of their way to provide the relevant resources for learning and any extra support. I always feel confident contacting them with any queries and they've all always been exceptionally approachable and passionate about the subject.

Politics / International Relations, Year 3

(5)·By Melissa K·Politics· Jul 2021
It was enjoyable. There was a lot provided by the course leaders and it was an informative period. It has a lot of variety and each accommodation is unique in its own way. All buildings are impressive and suit those in all financial situations. All of the facilities have been excellent throughout my time at university. The library has been predominantly useful, especially in supporting my studies and managing my study time. The SU is good in terms of a night out and also for student support. Lectures are all varied in their content and deliverance. Lecturers are approachable, helpful and knowledgable. City life is minimal as Keele is a rural university, but that was why I chose it. A city life would ruin the beautiful and peaceful nature of Keele.

Music, Year 2

(5)·By Alex A·Music· Jul 2021
It was really fun getting to meet different people, and seeing what the course was going to be like. It was strange to be in a new environment but it was nice. I don't know much about the accommodation because I live at home. However it looks nice but is probably expensive. Everything here is great actually. I could happily just sit in different places of the uni and just do work. It's relaxing. It was all pretty cool, but sometimes stressful. I really like the lecture side of uni because I can just do what I need to do. It's cool also, I like being able to just go out and chill with some mates. Also it's a really nice life style and place to live.

Chemical / Process / Energy, Graduate

Freshers week was so much fun and really guided you into meeting new people both on the course and not. The environment felt 100% safe and a lot of effort had gone into making nights out fun. Course introductions were also done in a really fun and innovative way. Accommodation is very fairly priced and is designed in a way that is very social and friendly. The study spaces at Keele are phenomenal. There are so many options depending on the kind of study you want to do as well as multiple computer rooms with all of the programmes needed by all courses All of the lab work completed is made extremely relevant to the teaching content and aids in explaining the theories you learn. The lecturers are always willing to help and are accessible whenever you need to email or talk. Keele campus is a stunning place. It is the largest single campus in the UK so there is so much space to explore with woods and the hall. The university has really used the space well.

Scary but exciting at the same time. Learnt things that I couldn't at college too so the teaching is a lot better at university than college.

Biology / Biotechnology, Year 2

(4.8)·By Lily O·Biology· Jul 2021
Really good. Large variety of events held at the students union and a number of well known electronic and rap artists played concerts. Extremely well organised and advertised For what you get, it is quite expensive. The newer accommodations are fabulous but the older ones need lots of work! Broken heating and no kitchen seating! All very good. Library is spacious and well looked after. Lecture theatres are modern and spacious. Students union needs modernising but is well built for purpose with multiple floors for the various nightclubs Awarded a Gold Award by the Teaching Excellence Framework. Keele's academic staff always go above and beyond to help and befriend you. Almost everything is recorded so that you can go back and watch lectures for revision whenever you please. Newcastle-under-Lyme and Stoke are nice in parts, but mostly are not the ideal student destination. Nightlife is good, but travelling to destinations off of campus at night can be expensive and tricky due to the distance. The intu Potteries is a great shopping destination

Psychology / Criminology, Year 2

(4.8)·By Jay W·Psychology· Jul 2021
I'd already done freshers at another university, I made 2-3 friends quite quickly. The social scene at keele is quite small so you are forced to make friends quickly or be left out. The friends I made won't be forgotten easily, it was quick but very impactful. I stayed out of campus. But what I have seen first hard is relatively rough. When I stayed in accommodation in Liverpool before Keele, it was overall superior. But keele was always closer to home so it's harder to judge between the two. The facilities were better than any other university I'd been apart of. I've visited 2 universities in Manchester and been/used 2 universities in Liverpool and keele surpassed both cities in terms of facilities. The library, staff and union were better at keele than anywhere else. My lecturers all actually cared about what they were saying. Each lecture you could tell that, what was written has been had been programmed and examine to a level that was university level. Psychology is a tricky subject to sumarise but keele managed to do it succinctly and efficiently. In Liverpool it felt like there was a constant buzz. If you wanted too, you could always find something fun and the same could be said for Newcastle under-Lyme. Although it was Stoke, you could always find an adventure.

Psychology, Year 3

I'm currently in my Year 3 of study at Keele university and I can honestly say I have loved every minute of it. I have made so many great friends and memories in my time here. The teaching staff I have had have also been excellent. Theyvall seem so passionate about their specific area of research and they pass on that enthusiasm in their lectures and seminars. I was apprehensive before starting university but since the first day I haven't looked back and am so glad I chose to continue education at such a great institution doing a course I love so much
