Amazing university!

(5)·By Dani W·Mathematics· Jun 2023
My four years at Loughborough University couldn't have impressed me more- from the quality of education to the social aspects I was incredibly fulfilled and I wouldn't have changed my time for anything. Despite being a small town, Loughborough offers a whole lot through both the institution and the ongoings in the area too. You can get involved in an extensive number of extra curricular activites from sport to countless societies- and even within your course you will be pushed to your maximum potential. The lecturers are incredible and have so much knowledge to share- and I feel my time at the university pushed me both personally and professionally to make me the person I am today. I would recommend this institution to anyone and everyone who wants an incomparable experience.

Business Studies / Management, Graduate

Very lively and sociable. Met some great friends. My first year accommodation was great. Very sociable flat of 8 boys. Loughborough facilities have been invested in heavily which was clear. The gym was the best I've ever been in. My course was enjoyable due to the amount of variation in the modules. Lecturers were also always engaging and intellectually stimulating. Loughborough town is very small but it still offered a very lively party scene. However there is a large university crowd compared to locals.

Electrical and electronic engineering, Third Year

Loughborough University has been an integral part of my development in the last few years. They say you change a lot at Uni, you find yourself, all those clichés... Well, they are cliches for a reason after all!

Through the support of my own department my studies have been tailored to suit my own issues with Mental health. This has been infinitely helpful for completing my degree. Involvement with the Student's Union has also provided opportunities to develop and improve my skill set and own personal experience

Sports Science, Year 1

The best thing about Loughborough is the atmosphere and the social life. The people I've met and the nights out etc we've had together are incredible. Everyone is very similar so it is easy to get on with everyone.
The acedemics are also excellent, the vast majority of tutors are knowledgeable and passionate about their subjects and there are additional schemes etc that you can take advantage of to get help if you're struggling. The campus is also incredible.

Sports / Sports Science, Year 3

Freshers week was the best week of my life. The mixture of amazing social life, fresh academic start and a whole new world is something that excited me so much. It definitely exceeded expectations. The accommodation at Loughborough truly has something for everyone. A range of prices to ensure everyones budgets can be met. A range of catering options too. Also the opportunity for a quiet block is something many love. The sports facilities are something that makes Loughborough stand out. The academic facilities are incredible too. The variety of topics covered in the course is something that attracted me to Loughborough compared to other universities. Also, the large contact hours even with COVID is something that was essential for my university experience. As Loughborough is a small town, the campus is the busiest place to be. Especially in first year, there is not much need to go off campus but town has everything anyone would need.

Art / Design, Graduate

It was amazing, I made new friends to carry with me throughout life. I also got to experience a week of our chaos and pure happiness, it was a memory I will always cherish. There is a wide selection of accommodation on campus and off. They all have they're own character and the people you live with become your family for that year. Loughborough University have top of the range technology available. There is huge range of facilities available to students for many things other than for their degree, such as gyms, libraries, sports spaces. The tutors are really passionate about the subject and are helpful for any problem, you just need to not be afraid to ask. The uni offer great services to help our course such as workshop classes. Loughborough is a small town, and a student town. It's nice to feel like a small community, but it's big enough to always meet new students on a night out. It never gets boring.

Architecture, Year 2

(5)·By Jordan W·Architecture· Jul 2021
it was very eventful, we did lots of activities especially as it was pre-covid. I did not participate in all activities the course was already so demanding of the bat which was not ideal although that was a commitment i wanted to take to pass my course. Most of events would be held by our halls (each day varying themes) then we would go to the main union club (also note loughbourgh freshers week last for two weeks so it's so fun) The accomodation is really good, there is lots of options differing in prices or facilities provided either you want a room with an ensuite or shared or to have it catered or not. The room sizes depend on the money you want to spend. But in all it's a really high standard loughbourgh university sets. The facilities are really good, especially with sports, with two main gyms and countless pitches and courts. The library is huge with many work spaces, lots of staff members to help, To add the student union is good class, during the day it's a nice social hub to chat with friends but during the night it's a huge night club with three main rooms separating with music taste. the course is good as loughbourgh architecture is very helpful and organised with the timeline and timetable which best suits us students, it's very hands on and one on one where the teacher student ratio is very good as architecture school is one of the smallest. The lectures are really good especially with covid, they are so organised in setting a like rotational timetable with people in each cohort splitting them into A and B, to attain covid restrictions. The city life is not great, very boring and dull, nothing to do really. However, the vibrancy of the campus really does make up for it.

Art / Design, Year 3

(5)·By Julina P·Art· Jul 2021
Freshers week was great to meet loads new people. My flat wasn't the friendliest bunch so I relied on my course to make close friends, which I did. Learning was too tough straight away so I still had time to have fun and settle in before getting into my study routine. I was in Falk Egg (the cheapest accommodation) and the rooms were nice and clean and fresh. The hall had a great social community and welcomed everyone. Kitchens were big enough for everyone and the staff helped students whenever they needed it. The library has many places to work, either by yourself, in groups, on a computer and in a meeting room. I love the design school the most though. Being in there made me focused and want to create. Students union was a good place to study or eat in the day and then a great night out but could have a better queue system. Some of the models seems a bit pointless and made me think that I could of been doing a project for my portfolio like they were in the other design courses. But apart from that all the lectures helped if you needed it and the courses was interesting. Would definitely recommend. Loughborough is the perfect size. You get to know everyone and when you walk around the town you know everyone goes to the university there which makes it feel really safe. On nights out you could of even gone out by yourself and bumped into all your friends as everyone is in the same place. There's still a variety of nights out, but there could always be more clubs/student bars.
