Amazing university!

(5)·By Dani W·Mathematics· Jun 2023
My four years at Loughborough University couldn't have impressed me more- from the quality of education to the social aspects I was incredibly fulfilled and I wouldn't have changed my time for anything. Despite being a small town, Loughborough offers a whole lot through both the institution and the ongoings in the area too. You can get involved in an extensive number of extra curricular activites from sport to countless societies- and even within your course you will be pushed to your maximum potential. The lecturers are incredible and have so much knowledge to share- and I feel my time at the university pushed me both personally and professionally to make me the person I am today. I would recommend this institution to anyone and everyone who wants an incomparable experience.

Psychology / Criminology, Year 3

I enjoyed my first week of lectures during freshers. The lecturers were enthusiastic, organised and welcoming. We were eased in slowly with introductory lectures explaining what we would be covering in each module and how we will he examined later in the year. Amazing! There is such a big hall culture at Loughborough which everyone loves. Hall accommodation is very social and a great way to meet friends. There are many options such as catered halls, non-catered halls, communal bathrooms and en-suites. The sport facilities at Loughborough are amazing. So modern and available for everyone. The library has computers, printers, study rooms for group work and silent areas of you really want to concentrate. In exam time the library is open 24/7 which is great with a cafe. Also the union is a great place to meet friends during the day for a coffee, with it turning into one of the main student clubs at night! There's Three rooms different types of music and amazing drinks deal. Very popular for a good Loughborough night out there is such a variety of modules in psychology. You study anything from social psychology, sport psychology to cognitive psychology and neuroscience. You can tailor your optional modules to what you prefer and enjoy learning about! Even though Loughborough town is smaller than a city, there is still a vast amount of things to do in the town centre. There are so many pubs you can go to for a catch up with friends. So many restaurants to eat and socialise in and a few clubs that are great for a night out.

Since being at Loughborough University I have felt very comfortable and safe. The quality of teaching is fantastic and the people are so lovely and kind. There are many things you can do and they have various activities in which you can join in that is suitable for all people.

The sports facilities here are amazing and they try and get everybody involved whether it is competitively or for fun you are bound to find something that fits you.

Loughborough University - the best choice

(5)·By Beth H·Psychology· Jun 2023
I go to Loughborough University and I study Psychology. I currently am in my third year and I am completing a Mental Health Placement with the NHS, an opportunity I feel I would not have gained had I not been in Loughborough. The support to apply for this placement was incredible.

I am not a particularly talented sportswoman however I have fallen in love with Lacrosse, something my university gave me the opportunity to engage in and it has now become a family I adore.

The campus aspect of Loughborough is my favourite. No long expensive commutes, everyone is so close by, it is such a close knit community. Every night out is so much fun and I never feel unsafe or worried about being alone as there is always someone I know.

Loughborough accommodation was amazing and the support to find a house for second year was brilliant. The housing agencies in Loughborough are amazing.

Amazing time during Freshers. Everyone was very welcoming and the events were well organised. Great socials and met some great friends! Very good accomodation and halls, made for a very homely feel during first year! Maintenance and wellbeing services are also very good and welcoming. Lots of different halls/accomodation for different budgets and people as well. Top class facilities. Sports facilities are unrivalled and the engineering facilities and labs are world class. Lecture halls and classrooms are also well set up and effective. Great student Union. Lecturers are often leading experts in their areas and teach quality content, whilst still being human and approachable. Great mix of theoretical content and practical work to optimise learning. Loughborough is not as lively as a major city, but still has some great shops and bars/pubs that can allow for a great time! Only a short taxi journey to the local cities of Nottingham, Derby or Leicester if you are looking for more life on a night out. Some great food places as well!

The freshers week was more associated with the halls of residence rather than the course. It was awesome though getting to know people you lived with etc. We had a couple of socials at the start related to our course but wasn't well attended The accommodation was excellent. Well laid out. Good atmosphere. Good socials Facilities at Loughborough are World Class. Library is excellent, loads of resources, staff really helpful, different levels for noise! SU was excellent! Sports areas were second to none! The lecturers really knew their stuff and were enthusiastic. The course was amazing and great to be a part of something so well-reknowned. The town of Loughborough is not great although there have been some improvements in the past couple of years with a sort of cineworld complex with Nando's and pizza express. But the rest of the town is quite run down and a bit strange.

Really informative, welcoming and everyone mixed well. Many people you meet in freshers you no longer saw as much afterwards though as you make new friends more in your clubs and course Really good rooms large desk, en suite and lots of space. The food was mediocre but kitchen provided alongside room to cook your own food was really good and in some cases just as good as the catered areas. Library is a really good workplace but it is too small for the university. Luckily all the department have their own dedicated workspaces to get work done. Computer labs everywhere. Sports facilities for anything you can think of. Difficult and a big challenge. Do engineering if you enjoy something engaging! The lectures are fast paced and difficult to remember but the practice material you are given solidifies the knowledge from the lectures. The town is objectively poor. But as a Loughborough student I grew to absolutely love it. The clubs are so bad you end up loving them. The town has everything you need for the basics and is really close to Nottingham for a more big city vibe.

Freshers week was the best week of my life. The mixture of amazing social life, fresh academic start and a whole new world is something that excited me so much. It definitely exceeded expectations. The accommodation at Loughborough truly has something for everyone. A range of prices to ensure everyones budgets can be met. A range of catering options too. Also the opportunity for a quiet block is something many love. The sports facilities are something that makes Loughborough stand out. The academic facilities are incredible too. The variety of topics covered in the course is something that attracted me to Loughborough compared to other universities. Also, the large contact hours even with COVID is something that was essential for my university experience. As Loughborough is a small town, the campus is the busiest place to be. Especially in first year, there is not much need to go off campus but town has everything anyone would need.

The best thing about Loughborough is the atmosphere and the social life. The people I've met and the nights out etc we've had together are incredible. Everyone is very similar so it is easy to get on with everyone.
The acedemics are also excellent, the vast majority of tutors are knowledgeable and passionate about their subjects and there are additional schemes etc that you can take advantage of to get help if you're struggling. The campus is also incredible.
