Great campus for a proper student life feel

(5)·By Isabelle C·Design· Jun 2024
My university experience so far has been really good. My accommodation is in a great location, and I have met lots of lovely people here. My course (graphic design) has been steadily getting more challenging as the terms go on, and the content is quite interesting and enjoyable. The lecturers have all been very supportive and involved. The campus is the best part though, as everything is all in one place basically. It's really nice to walk around and see so many buildings and sports fields, as well as the iconic fountain building. I would really recommend it. Honestly, I think I made a great choice coming here.

Engineering, Graduate

Really informative, welcoming and everyone mixed well. Many people you meet in freshers you no longer saw as much afterwards though as you make new friends more in your clubs and course Really good rooms large desk, en suite and lots of space. The food was mediocre but kitchen provided alongside room to cook your own food was really good and in some cases just as good as the catered areas. Library is a really good workplace but it is too small for the university. Luckily all the department have their own dedicated workspaces to get work done. Computer labs everywhere. Sports facilities for anything you can think of. Difficult and a big challenge. Do engineering if you enjoy something engaging! The lectures are fast paced and difficult to remember but the practice material you are given solidifies the knowledge from the lectures. The town is objectively poor. But as a Loughborough student I grew to absolutely love it. The clubs are so bad you end up loving them. The town has everything you need for the basics and is really close to Nottingham for a more big city vibe.

Freshers week was great to meet loads new people. My flat wasn't the friendliest bunch so I relied on my course to make close friends, which I did. Learning was too tough straight away so I still had time to have fun and settle in before getting into my study routine. I was in Falk Egg (the cheapest accommodation) and the rooms were nice and clean and fresh. The hall had a great social community and welcomed everyone. Kitchens were big enough for everyone and the staff helped students whenever they needed it. The library has many places to work, either by yourself, in groups, on a computer and in a meeting room. I love the design school the most though. Being in there made me focused and want to create. Students union was a good place to study or eat in the day and then a great night out but could have a better queue system. Some of the models seems a bit pointless and made me think that I could of been doing a project for my portfolio like they were in the other design courses. But apart from that all the lectures helped if you needed it and the courses was interesting. Would definitely recommend. Loughborough is the perfect size. You get to know everyone and when you walk around the town you know everyone goes to the university there which makes it feel really safe. On nights out you could of even gone out by yourself and bumped into all your friends as everyone is in the same place. There's still a variety of nights out, but there could always be more clubs/student bars.

I had an incredible time during Freshers at Loughborough University. Each night we had a different event to go to, such as a punch party or "the sing off", which were all organised by our hall committees and the Student Union. This made such a difference because it gave us some direction with where to go and who to go with. I lived in Robert Bakewell Hall at Loughborough in my first and second years. The accomodation is very modern and you have so much space in your room (including an ensuite)! It's a really fun place to be too because the committee make sure that everyone gets to know everyone in their block. The sports facilities are pretty much unrivalled at Loughborough University as it's the UK's no.1 sports university. The gyms are state of the art and there's so many sport pitches. The library is really good, although there's sometimes not always room to sit because it's always so busy. The student union is amazing. The course modules are all very diverse and interesting. The lecturers are also very engaging and are experts in their fields. I have always felt supported by the course academics . Loughborough isn't a city so the night life is nowhere near as vibrant as it might be in London, for example. But we have our three town nightclubs which are always so much fun (particularly because you'll always bump into someone you know in there)! There are also lots of very nice places to go and have a coffee or eat out !

History, Year 2

Was okay, as it was mostly inductions for the first 2 days so could survive. However at Loughborough it's freshers fortnight so the second week was hard to keep focus and awake. Fantastic. Wide range, food in catered is even good too. Really good communal vibes and each hall has a committee who are really friendly. Brilliant. The campus is flawless, wide range of events from the union and the academic resources are second to none. The course is interesting and thought provoking. The lectures are well structured and encourages student contribution. It's a town, so is nice as everything is so close together and a lot of the town are students so it's a really unique place where clubs and pubs hold amazing events

Economics, Graduate

Freshers week was filled with fun activities that was very inclusive. Most of the time evening nights out were at the Student Union which is good for the beginning as you have everyone in one spot with 5 different dance floors. Overall it was a good experience. There are a lot to choose from with differing costs and services. I was in Towers which is fully catered - the food was good, the rooms very decent for the price and the community of people/care takers was fun but respectful. Loughborough is the largest campus Uni so most live on campus at least for the first year. Facilities are world class - sports wise this is the best Uni in the world and the facilities are fitting for the best of the best international athletes. The library is class, with plenty of space and mixture of books and modern work areas. It's is massive. However there are plenty of department areas to work or communal study areas across the campus. 10/10 The course is good, ranked very highly in UK for Econ. The teaching style could be improved on and the content is 90% interesting although some improvements could be made. If your not from a small town it will take some getting used to, once you do it's great as you know everyone round the usual spots and nightlife - plus it's cheap as you can walk everywhere!

It was really fun. We went to lots of different events. I got to know loads of people. The accommodation is amazing. There is such a range of options. The 16 halls here are exceptional. The library is brilliant. The student union is the best in the country. The sports areas are world class. The lectures were engaging. We used interactive software so it was not boring. The course is what I expected. I didn't live in a city. Loughborough is a town. However I have visited Nottingham nearby.

Freshers week was very good, got to meet a lot of people and got a great feel for what it was like to be a loughborough student and its benefits My accommodation was perfect, always clean and allowed me to meet lots of great people, I enjoyed it so much I stayed in halls in my second year too The facilities at Loughborough are first class whether it be for sport or studying the campus has everything you need. The nightlife is brilliant with the best student union in the country, lots of clubs in town and Nottingham not too far away The course covers a wider range of sections of sport science in first year so you can start to understand where you would like to specialise Loughborough town has everything you might need and is only 10 minute walk from campus

Freshers at Loughborough was a unique experience, with a large hall culture, and was planned by current students which made it so much better There's a large variety of prices, and there's a strong culture within the halls - making it feel like a community. The facilities are very well looked after and modern. The students union is also outstanding, and puts on loads of events including sober ones. During the Covid pandemic, the uni has gone beyond to ensure we still are learning to a good ability. With still having some in person lectures, it still feels normal. Despite being a small town, it has everything you need. It also provides a tight knit community.

The course is so interesting and incredibly relevant, it's designed so good regardless of what route you intend to go down. All the lecturers are incredibly good and approachable. The accommodation is so nice aswell and if you are unhappy with your hall or block it's really easy to change. It's also insanely continent that there's a club on campus and makes me feel a million times safer on nights out that the club and my room are all on the campus.
