Architecture, Year 2

(5)·By Jordan W·Architecture· Jul 2021
it was very eventful, we did lots of activities especially as it was pre-covid. I did not participate in all activities the course was already so demanding of the bat which was not ideal although that was a commitment i wanted to take to pass my course. Most of events would be held by our halls (each day varying themes) then we would go to the main union club (also note loughbourgh freshers week last for two weeks so it's so fun) The accomodation is really good, there is lots of options differing in prices or facilities provided either you want a room with an ensuite or shared or to have it catered or not. The room sizes depend on the money you want to spend. But in all it's a really high standard loughbourgh university sets. The facilities are really good, especially with sports, with two main gyms and countless pitches and courts. The library is huge with many work spaces, lots of staff members to help, To add the student union is good class, during the day it's a nice social hub to chat with friends but during the night it's a huge night club with three main rooms separating with music taste. the course is good as loughbourgh architecture is very helpful and organised with the timeline and timetable which best suits us students, it's very hands on and one on one where the teacher student ratio is very good as architecture school is one of the smallest. The lectures are really good especially with covid, they are so organised in setting a like rotational timetable with people in each cohort splitting them into A and B, to attain covid restrictions. The city life is not great, very boring and dull, nothing to do really. However, the vibrancy of the campus really does make up for it.

Really informative, welcoming and everyone mixed well. Many people you meet in freshers you no longer saw as much afterwards though as you make new friends more in your clubs and course Really good rooms large desk, en suite and lots of space. The food was mediocre but kitchen provided alongside room to cook your own food was really good and in some cases just as good as the catered areas. Library is a really good workplace but it is too small for the university. Luckily all the department have their own dedicated workspaces to get work done. Computer labs everywhere. Sports facilities for anything you can think of. Difficult and a big challenge. Do engineering if you enjoy something engaging! The lectures are fast paced and difficult to remember but the practice material you are given solidifies the knowledge from the lectures. The town is objectively poor. But as a Loughborough student I grew to absolutely love it. The clubs are so bad you end up loving them. The town has everything you need for the basics and is really close to Nottingham for a more big city vibe.

Freshers week had so many activities and made you feel at home straight away. Made loads of new friends from the activities the uni put on Great accommodation for all types of living. I loved my accomodation in first year comfy had all amenities Amazing sports facilities pool gym. Great lecture Hallw and study areas. Also student union is the best place. From going for a coffee to the nightlife The course was so engaging I learnt so much. Did my undergrad and then carried in til postgrad. Lecturers are great and facilities for the practical side of learning City life was ok. There are some lovely little restaurants and cafes. Not much shopping which is fine. The train was only 10 min to the next city.

English Studies, Year 2

Freshers week was very fun, lots of partying and dancing. We went out almost every night and made a lot of new friends. University was well worth the price. Very welcoming and easy to find with lots of extras. Best places to be are Powerbase gym and the Union. Powerbase is the best gym in the country by a mile. Course was interesting but not overwhelming with work. They work you hard but recognise you're a human too. Loughborough is quiet except for the 20 ambulances a day that go by my house. Loads of pubs and restaurants so there's loads to do.

I had an incredible time during Freshers at Loughborough University. Each night we had a different event to go to, such as a punch party or "the sing off", which were all organised by our hall committees and the Student Union. This made such a difference because it gave us some direction with where to go and who to go with. I lived in Robert Bakewell Hall at Loughborough in my first and second years. The accomodation is very modern and you have so much space in your room (including an ensuite)! It's a really fun place to be too because the committee make sure that everyone gets to know everyone in their block. The sports facilities are pretty much unrivalled at Loughborough University as it's the UK's no.1 sports university. The gyms are state of the art and there's so many sport pitches. The library is really good, although there's sometimes not always room to sit because it's always so busy. The student union is amazing. The course modules are all very diverse and interesting. The lecturers are also very engaging and are experts in their fields. I have always felt supported by the course academics . Loughborough isn't a city so the night life is nowhere near as vibrant as it might be in London, for example. But we have our three town nightclubs which are always so much fun (particularly because you'll always bump into someone you know in there)! There are also lots of very nice places to go and have a coffee or eat out !

I enjoyed my first week of lectures during freshers. The lecturers were enthusiastic, organised and welcoming. We were eased in slowly with introductory lectures explaining what we would be covering in each module and how we will he examined later in the year. Amazing! There is such a big hall culture at Loughborough which everyone loves. Hall accommodation is very social and a great way to meet friends. There are many options such as catered halls, non-catered halls, communal bathrooms and en-suites. The sport facilities at Loughborough are amazing. So modern and available for everyone. The library has computers, printers, study rooms for group work and silent areas of you really want to concentrate. In exam time the library is open 24/7 which is great with a cafe. Also the union is a great place to meet friends during the day for a coffee, with it turning into one of the main student clubs at night! There's Three rooms different types of music and amazing drinks deal. Very popular for a good Loughborough night out there is such a variety of modules in psychology. You study anything from social psychology, sport psychology to cognitive psychology and neuroscience. You can tailor your optional modules to what you prefer and enjoy learning about! Even though Loughborough town is smaller than a city, there is still a vast amount of things to do in the town centre. There are so many pubs you can go to for a catch up with friends. So many restaurants to eat and socialise in and a few clubs that are great for a night out.

I have made the most amazing friends and all of the committee and staff are so amazing and determined to ensure that you have an amazing time. There is always something in offer for you to do ranging from parties to roller discos and you are never pressured into doing anything you don't want to.

Freshers week was filled with fun activities that was very inclusive. Most of the time evening nights out were at the Student Union which is good for the beginning as you have everyone in one spot with 5 different dance floors. Overall it was a good experience. There are a lot to choose from with differing costs and services. I was in Towers which is fully catered - the food was good, the rooms very decent for the price and the community of people/care takers was fun but respectful. Loughborough is the largest campus Uni so most live on campus at least for the first year. Facilities are world class - sports wise this is the best Uni in the world and the facilities are fitting for the best of the best international athletes. The library is class, with plenty of space and mixture of books and modern work areas. It's is massive. However there are plenty of department areas to work or communal study areas across the campus. 10/10 The course is good, ranked very highly in UK for Econ. The teaching style could be improved on and the content is 90% interesting although some improvements could be made. If your not from a small town it will take some getting used to, once you do it's great as you know everyone round the usual spots and nightlife - plus it's cheap as you can walk everywhere!

Electrical and electronic engineering, Third Year

Loughborough University has been an integral part of my development in the last few years. They say you change a lot at Uni, you find yourself, all those clichés... Well, they are cliches for a reason after all! Through the support of my own department my studies have been tailored to suit my own issues with Mental health. This has been infinitely helpful for completing my degree. Involvement with the Student's Union has also provided opportunities to develop and improve my skill set and own personal experience

Since being at Loughborough University I have felt very comfortable and safe. The quality of teaching is fantastic and the people are so lovely and kind. There are many things you can do and they have various activities in which you can join in that is suitable for all people. The sports facilities here are amazing and they try and get everybody involved whether it is competitively or for fun you are bound to find something that fits you.

The freshers week was more associated with the halls of residence rather than the course. It was awesome though getting to know people you lived with etc. We had a couple of socials at the start related to our course but wasn't well attended The accommodation was excellent. Well laid out. Good atmosphere. Good socials Facilities at Loughborough are World Class. Library is excellent, loads of resources, staff really helpful, different levels for noise! SU was excellent! Sports areas were second to none! The lecturers really knew their stuff and were enthusiastic. The course was amazing and great to be a part of something so well-reknowned. The town of Loughborough is not great although there have been some improvements in the past couple of years with a sort of cineworld complex with Nando's and pizza express. But the rest of the town is quite run down and a bit strange.
