Mental Health: Psychological Therapies (Online) MSc

Our online programme takes a psychosocial approach to mental health, exploring how individual, social, and cultural contexts shape wellbeing and experiences of distress. Whether you’re just starting out in the field or already working in mental health and want to broaden your knowledge, this course is designed to support your development. <br/><br/>You’ll engage with the core competencies of practitioner psychologists - such as assessment, formulation, and critical evaluation - while exploring a wide range of therapeutic models and approaches appropriate for implementation across a breadth mental health settings and a wide range of related roles. This programme is designed both for those at the start of their career who want to build their understanding of the field, and for professionals in areas such as mental health, social work, education, HR, or the voluntary sector who want to deepen their knowledge and skills.<br/><br/>You’ll critically explore different ways of understanding mental health and distress, and examine how social and cultural contexts influence both problems and recovery. The course introduces you to a range of therapeutic models and helps you evaluate their evidence base and relevance to different presentations.<br/><br/>Alongside this, you’ll develop core practitioner-relevant skills in assessment, formulation, critical thinking, and reflective practice. Research training is built in throughout the programme, giving you the opportunity to design and carry out an independent research project in an area of your interest.<br/><br/>By the time you graduate, you’ll have the knowledge and confidence to engage critically with psychological therapies, apply psychosocial perspectives to complex problems, and communicate your ideas effectively in both written and spoken form.<br/><br/>This is an academic programme and does not provide professional accreditation.
