Music, Year 3

The academic year starts with Freshers' Week, which is a great time to explore all the clubs on offer (but you're welcome to sign up to any of our societies at any time). Other social highlights include the Christmas Party and Summer Ball. It's great as you have different options like : halls of residence or if you want to live with friends in a privately rented flat or house that's also an option. They can also provide free legal advice, should you run into any housing-related difficulties during your time at the Academy. Most of the students studies takes place in the Academy's central building and the next-door Regency terrace designed by John Nash in the 1820s which is super Cool The main performance spaces are: The Duke's Hall with 350-seat concert venue The David Josefowitz Recital 120 seats The Susie Sainsbury Theatre, a newly constructed, 309-seat venue with a large stage and orchestra pit suitable for a variety of large-scale performances including fully staged operas Angela Burgess Recital Hall, a striking, 100-seat rooftop space featuring astounding acoustics that are great for both recording and performing. We also benefit from teaching and recording studios, the library, the academy museum which hosts regular events and also a canteen where we can buy affordable meals I've been lucky to Choose what I truly loved since I can remember which is music and at RAm everything involves music, art and creativity. I probably loved the most the way they let you express your personality, and the variety of great professors that are always there to help and Inspire you. It's absolutely great,we are in a very central area of London so there are so many attractions nearby, so many things to do and visit. Just strolling around Marylebone itself is incredible

Music, Year 3

(4.5)·By Inis O·Music· Jul 2021
It was amazing, great opportunity to meet everyone and make connections which is very important in music. We also have a live jazz band so that was great. There are quite a few accommodations which are inter-university so we can meet people from different universities. All the accommodations are very close to the school. Our library is easily accessible and the student Union is really well run. However we don't have any sports facilities so we have to do that individually. We would have 3 lectures each week for everybody and then classes of 10 people with the same 3 modules which meant that we could expand on something we focus on within that week. The tutors are very supportive and kind to those who don't understand, especially as we have many international students. As it is in central London, everything is easily accessible and there are many places to eat out and explore. It can be very busy sometimes and feel a little loud, but I personally enjoy that.

Music, Year 3

It was amazing! We had parties with other music colleges also to meet fellow young aspiring musicians in London and everyone was so much fun! The Marylebone flats are beautiful small flats right across the road from the main building, and you get to feel really independent whilst still learning to grow and be a student! There are so many different practice rooms available and access to all different types of music and resources in the wonderful library. There are also three different beautiful halls that all students have access to perform and record in. At RAM, you are treated as a professional would in the real world, which is why the course is so great. So many opportunities are given to work with amazing conductors and professional musicians, which is why the course is so unique. Living in London provides such an exciting lifestyle. There is so much to explore and so much culture, you never get bored!

Music, Year 1

I am really enjoying my university experience; I feel challenged and motivated to work and fulfil my potential but also well supported by teaching staff and my peers. My accommodation is a 30 minute walk from the university, which is a manageable distance, and the practice and performance facilities in the Academy are second to none.

Music, Year 3

It was ok, there were some freshers events such as boat parties and pub crawl which were fun. We also had a freshers fair which introduced our uni to the freshers Academy provide two accommodations which are both really close the the Academy. No need to worry about travel spendings and really nice quiet neighbourhood Library is great. We have a library provide thousands of music scores from different composers, from solo to orchestral, arts songs to operas. We also have many practice rooms which have great quality pianos Course is amazing. In the first and second year of your study you'll receive many academic music lectures and seminars while studying your principal instrument. In third year onward, you will have much more performance opportunities and develop your techniques It is busy but fruitful. Everything moves and progress so fast so it may take some time for you to get used to if you're from the countryside

Don't go

I'm speaking as a student from 1980s. I had cptsd before going the stress of being at this establishment broke me and numerous peers. Why would anyone fo into a business where the 'professors' threw up before performing and actually committed suicide whilst on tour? ( clarinettist c 1991) massively geared towards upper middle class entrants who have been to private school. Now there is less funding in state sector this snobbery will be exasperated. If you are a sensitive person beware. As my 2nd study pianist teacher said: " as a musician, one needs to be sensitive, but in this establishment its a downside. Arrogance and insensitivity rule' I paraphrase but the sentiment is there.I dida few Cds after I left RAM but left this nasty 'profession ' asap. Beware

Music, Year 3

Freshers was fun, however it ran alongside a normal week of lectures and studying. I was a vocal student so obviously struggled finding a balance of enjoying myself and being able to sing. I stayed at home, however I stayed with friends at their accomodation and it was awful!! Mushrooms grew in the COMMUNAL showers, and the bedrooms were tiny and cold. Good facilities, but not enough practise rooms for students The good lectures were often the ones based on history. So fun. The uni didn't help much with exploring the city/collaborating with other establishments. However the uni location was great, central
