Don't expect them to be helpful
(1.5)·By Jacob D·Computing· Jan 2024 Telford college has been chaotic to the point that staff kept lying about any problem someone may report and will gaslight students which is harmful mentally because throughout the building are signs on the walls about how how much good the college will bring into your life and how they can support you but they don't. This is what they did: they promised us a good teacher on the second year of this two year course and instead we had someone who didn't teach us anything linked to the course which they later removed but only after months of students reporting him and being told that they're in the wrong and then this led to three months without an official teacher before getting a decent one who ended up having to spend his personal money on equipment for a practical task on the assignment because the college didn't think the students were worth purchasing equipment for and would prefer to spend money on promoting their facilities to outsiders making it appear like they provide resources when in reality, they don't. This staff member was helpful, encouraging and said he was going to persuade the college into providing better resources to students and they refused to improve because that's what Telford College does, they make it appear that they will help us but they only care about looking good to outsiders while students inside the building are struggling. The worst part was possibly when we were told we completed our assignments early so we could hand them in unofficially and leave if we signed something and then on the last week possible, contacted us with a lie that they wanted us to look at universities and then when we were in class told us that three entire units were missing pass grades which they should've analysed and alerted us about sooner. When it comes to the rating for Graduate Careers, it doesn't deserve any stars because i asked for help looking for a career or job and they did not give any support making me want to avoid that place at all cost because they will try to make it appear that they are helping students but are pulling out empty words with no care for our passions and they try to tell us not to aim for the careers we are looking for. Despite what happened, I got myself a distinction grade thanks to the few that had helped me but are either gone now or going to leave soon, but unfortunately, this college has made me feel like I am going nowhere because they had not helped me with my future, but instead constantly lied to me saying the same things they repeat to other students to give me false thinking and now I'm stuck. usually, I try to be motivational and I will say it is possible to get through but you will need external support who know what the word "chaos" means and how to get through it or in my case, I had faith that kept me going even when things felt hopeless and despite what I say about the course, I still have a bit of hope now even though I am unhappy in the moment of writing this but that's a battle within me. they're going to say they are there to help you but they won't because they're too busy trying to protect their reputation to actually care about students. For the social side of the college, they are trying to produce enrichment activities and do take suggestions. Enrichment is activities such as gym clubs, board games and crafting although it's hard to put a pin into this topic as they keep changing the approach. I think that if you can make time for a club, you can try making friends this way but I never had time to socialise in college and just stuck with my class which I will warn you is a gamble in whether you have a decent class or a room full of madness. Be careful who you make eye contact with...
