Veterinary Sciences, Year 3

Very inclusive and interesting activities, plenty involvement with societies and opportunities for socialisation with older and more experienced years that could provide advice and information, social activities had plenty good planning and help from designated peers to make sure everyone was comfterable and safe particularly on nights out The accommodation is varied and close to campus which is extremely useful when you don't know the area particularly well, plenty opportunity to meet others at accomodation, very comfortable and good help with issues if necessary, some new build properties Facilities very good, plenty resources to help with studying, sports areas are large and very good for the activities and sports societies which you can get involved with on site, RVCSU very good for buying specific products and providing memberships to all the societies through the online website Involved and teachers always willing to help and answer questions even out of hours, plenty information when needed, lectures provided online if you can't attend live lectures for a particular reason, and always available online for reviewing and revision near exam time London is lively and busling and the RVC definitely makes the most of the night life with organised social nights out at different clubs/bars making the most of how accessible the majority of London is from the RVC location due to how close you are to major train stations, very immersive and definitely good to get stuck in

Veterinary Sciences, Year 2

Freshers week was very engaging and interactive. Plenty of events to do every day of freshers both drinking and non drinking The accommodation was very new, clean and well refurbished for students use Library in the Camden campus is rather small but a very cosy atmosphere great for studying. The gym is also quite small but the size of the campus is generally smaller being in central London but it gives a nice intimate student experience The course is strand teaching and very interactive which is a great way to learn, loads of practicals and directed group learning, really consolidates your knowledge The city life was great, being in the heart of Camden there's is lots to do, very vibrant and filled with culture and diversity which I love

Veterinary Sciences, Year 2

It was amazing! We were so well looked after, had older years showing us the ropes making sure we all got home safe. Learned where the clubs were and how to use transport to get there and back. They planned the best events that broke the ice and made it easier to get to know one another. Student veterinary nursing accommodation in the houses is amazing, they are redoing the houses to modernise them. They are well cared for and easy to make homely. If you have any problems the housing team is quick to sort it. The library is big, full of all the books you can dream of, and with easy access online if you don't want to make the trip there. The sports facility is brand new and absolutely fantastic, where you can attend amazing classes. The course is taught by leaders in their field, their passion for the subjects they lecture makes it all the more engaging. All lectures are recorded which is great if you miss a lecture or need help while doing consolidation work. They are entertaining and fun, making learning a dream The Hertfordshire campus is rural but getting into London is super easy. A shuttle bus to the station runs regularly, or Uber's are an easy way. Train journeys are quick and cheap, perfect for students.

Veterinary, Year 4 Plus

Overall I've really enjoyed myself, and I've developed massively as a person in terms of self confidence and so on.

RVC does have a tendancy to be extremely disorganised at times however that it causes more stress on top of an already stressful course.

The actual uni tho is amazing with exceptionally good facilities (there are whole buildings I still haven't been in!)

Nursing, Graduate

(4.8)·By Melissa W·Other· Jul 2021
The vast majority of Freshers events were based in London so we had coaches in which left quite early. Wristbands included most events which made them good value but this wasn't very well publicised ahead of time. The long term accommodation at Hawkshead is very nice and maintenance are very helpful. All of the rooms in NSV are ensuite. The nursing houses are being renovated but are more basic with shared bathrooms. Odiham hall is tired so is usually reserved for short term (eg a few nights). The library and study areas are great with lots of different environments (including rooms that can be booked for groups and pods in the library). The sports and wellbeing center is fantastic, with a climbing wall, free classes and personal training sessions. The course definitely prepared for practice. The lectures were in blocks with modular exams. Some lectures were very PowerPoint based but these lessened after the first year and became more interactive. Hawkshead is very much in the countryside and there's not much going on except for the uni but free busses to the station made the 30 minute train into central London easy. The Camden campus is much more lively.

Being in the heart of London for my degree is amazing. There is no better place to study than in the vibrant young city of London. Nights out are amazing especially with free entry into Zoo bar on Wednesdays for RVC students.
The RVC offers a wide variety of sports and those that you cannot do with the uni you can do with the university of London. The Bioveterinary science degree is enjoyable, challenging and sets you up well for a whole variety of career paths. The lecturers are all really helpful and are more than happy to help you, even out of hours.

Downsides: management. The RVC management is awful. They change things without telling the students and their logic is impossible to understand. Sports wise they decide to spend thousands on a 3/4 pitch for hockey. Why not make it that extra bit longer? The hockey team still has to hire out other pitches when playing matches and they can't even train properly on it. It is next to redundant in its use. This year they're building a whole new sports centre which will include a climbing wall for a club that is barely 20 strong. Similarly to a dance studio for a similar size club. Spending thousands on that when the boat club, which has around 150 members and is the biggest club at the RVC, has not had a new boat in over 30 years which would cost a fraction of the cost of a climbing wall or dance studio.
They also upped international students fees by ?2,000 without any warning or excuse.
As well as that, the STUDENT Union is run by a man who firstly is not a student and secondly has no concept of what student life is like and no idea how to run the SU. It is a total joke when something that happens with one sports club causes sanctions and punishments on all of them. As well as that, blaming entire bodies of students for the actions of just a few is not acceptable.

Rant over. Overall amazing uni. Shocking management

Very good, the students were amazing and there were lots of events. It was nice to be part of ULU events as well as RVC. Everything was very well organised and there was something for everyone. Very close to campus, lovely buildings. I lived in Mary B and it was the ideal location and very secure. Only issue is the lift and washing machines kept breaking. Library is great, staff are friendly and it's an excellent study space. Gym is small but well equipped and easy to access. SU has a great shop and a bar/pub in each campus which is a fantastic place to study or relax. Lecturers are very knowledgeable and helpful, and tutors are incredibly supportive. The course is challenging but it is well structured and designed to make learning a large amount of information as easy as it can be. London is a great place to be a student, except for how expensive it is! There is always something to do and somewhere to go to relax after uni. Lots of great bars and clubs!
