Are you interested in how psychology can be applied to health, illness and healthcare, and how interventions can be used to improve outcomes and the experience of healthcare?
Our MSc Health Psychology is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) and provides an excellent foundation for a career in health psychology, as well as a range of postgraduate and research opportunities including doctoral study, PhD training and careers across healthcare, academia, research and the third sector.
If you hold BPS Graduate Basis for Chartership, successful completion of this MSc will enable you to progress to Stage 2 Health Psychology training, taking the next step towards becoming a Chartered Psychologist with the BPS and a Registered Health Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
While many graduates progress to Stage 2 Health Psychology training, alongside preparing you for practitioner training, the course equips you with advanced research, critical thinking and behaviour change skills that are highly valued across healthcare, academia, research, policy and the third sector. Whether your goal is doctoral research, a PhD, practitioner training or a career in healthcare and wellbeing, you'll graduate with a strong foundation for your next steps.
You will learn from staff at the Manchester Centre for Health Psychology , covering topics such as:
* key theories in health psychology and how to apply them;
* current approaches to changing health-related behaviour at individual, population and regulatory levels;
* the interaction between psychological processes (cognitions, emotions, behaviour) and disease and illness;
* the ways in which social-cultural factors contribute to health;
* advanced research methods and analysis techniques in both quantitative and qualitative research;
* the role and scope of health psychology within academic and healthcare settings.
* preparation for a range of future career pathways, including practitioner training, doctoral research (PhD) and careers in healthcare, academia and industry.
You will also have the opportunity to attend research seminars.
