It places a strong focus on the complexities of substance misuse and addiction.<br/>You will have the chance to gain insight and advice on careers in psychology and related areas from practising psychologists. <br/>In addition, you will undertake essential work experience where you will be able to apply your theoretical knowledge in real-world settings.<br/>Our psychology research facilities include:<br/>• brain imaging electroencephalogram (EEG)<br/>• eye tracking equipment<br/>• a range of experiment and research software. <br/>We provide access and a high standard of support for the use of these facilities.<br/><br/>What youll study<br/>This degree course puts your psychology studies alongside the real-world counselling practices used to work with people in psychological distress. <br/>You will learn core British Psychological Society (BPS) content, along with fresh and contemporary insight into the study of human behaviour.<br/>Work experience is crucial to this course and will allow you to apply what you are learning to real-life situations. Past students have completed work experience in a range of settings, including:<br/>• victim support schemes<br/>• drug support schemes<br/>• after school clubs<br/>• market research.<br/>Many of our experienced teaching staff are involved in research on contemporary topics such as addiction, alcohol and binge drinking, cyber-bullying and honour-based violence.<br/>You will also have access to specialised equipment and software that will aid your learning and provide practical research skills. This includes:<br/>• experiment building software such as Testable, SuperLab and Psychopy<br/>• BIOPACS<br/>• eye tracking units with biofeedback integration capability<br/>• EEG<br/>• portable EEG<br/>• validated cognitive ability tests.<br/>We pride ourselves on providing a highly supportive environment. You will be assigned a personal tutor who will work with you during your psychology and counselling theory studies.
