English language and linguistics combines the study of the structure and meaning of the English language, past and present, to see what all this tells us about our culture, our society and ourselves. Politics is the study of the way power and influence are distributed within society and how this affects decision making within and among countries and states. <br/><br/><strong>Why study this course at the University of Glasgow?</strong> <br/><br/>We have been teaching English Language and Linguistics for over 75 years and our staff are leaders in their fields. <br/><br/>We created the world-leading Historical Thesaurus of English, a unique resource charting the semantic development of the huge and varied vocabulary of English, and we have dedicated laboratories for analysing spoken and written language. <br/><br/>You will study a wide variety of topics including courses in international relations and political theory, as well as the politics of a range of areas from the Middle East to Latin America to Europe.
