If you're compassionate, committed and motivated to make a difference in the lives of children, young people and families, this course will help you build the skills, experience and confidence needed to provide high-quality care across a range of settings. You'll develop the knowledge and professional values required to support children and young people with acute illness, long-term conditions and additional health needs, while promoting their health and wellbeing.
On successful completion of the course, you'll be eligible to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Registered Nurse for children, opening the door to a wide range of career opportunities.
From the start of the course, you'll develop the vital skills, values and confidence needed to care for children, young people and their families, whatever their circumstances. You'll also explore the impact of health inequalities and the wider social factors that influence children's health and life chances, helping you understand how nursing can play a key role in improving outcomes for children, young people and communities.

• You’ll develop your key clinical skills using patient simulators in our specialist high fidelity child nursing ward in the University’s new Daphne Steele Building on the National Health Innovation campus.
• You'll be taught by a team who understand what it is like be a child nurse and are able to demonstrate the latest techniques and procedures, supporting you to put these skills into practice.
• Your time on the course will be divided between learning theory and applying your knowledge in a clinical environment, with clinical placements providing opportunities for you to put what you’ve learned into practice in a variety of settings.
Our Public Partnership Group (PPG) and Health and Wellbeing Academy work together to support your development as a compassionate, person-centred professional. You’ll engage with service users and carers through lectures, discussions, and simulations. Their lived experiences will help to build your communication skills, empathy, and the critical thinking needed to deliver outstanding care across diverse communities. Our Health and Wellbeing Academy offers hands-on placement opportunities through initiatives like Get Set Goal and Restart a Heart. These experiences will help you build skills in communication, public health, leadership, and teamwork while making a real impact in the community.
