Electronic and electrical engineering is a dynamic, wide-ranging discipline that drives modern technology. This MSc course provides a flexible pathway for ambitious engineers seeking to deepen their technical skills and expand their leadership potential.
You will build a strong foundation through core teaching that reflects the school’s active research strengths, while tailoring your learning to match your interests. Rather than following a rigid pathway, you can shape a degree that aligns directly with your career ambitions – positioning you at the forefront of global innovation.
Customise your degree through a wide range of advanced modules designed to meet growing industry demand for AI hardware, clean power infrastructure, and hyper-connected systems. You can focus your studies across four key areas:
* Power Electronics & Electrical Machines: Clean energy integration, smart grids, and electric transport.
* Semiconductor & Photonic Engineering: Microchip architectures, optoelectronic devices, and advanced materials.
* Digital Electronics & Advanced Computing: Hardware and software systems for complex computing and AI acceleration.
* Mobile & Data Communications: Wireless networks, optical communications, and IoT connectivity.
For your individual research project, you’ll work on a real-world engineering challenge and build industry relevant project management skills. Many projects are run alongside industry partners or specialist research centres, giving you the freedom to explore new ideas and test out cutting-edge concepts.
You will graduate with the advanced technical skills and leadership qualities needed to progress into senior engineering, managerial, and research roles across key sectors including energy, transport, telecommunications, and advanced manufacturing.
Accreditation
Accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) on behalf of the Engineering Council (EC) as meeting the requirements for Further Learning for registration as a Chartered Engineer. You must hold a CEng accredited BEng/BSc (Hons) undergraduate first degree to comply with full CEng registration requirements.
