The course is particularly relevant if you’re interested in a career in research at a university or in industry.<br/><br/>You’ll build on your core knowledge of pure and applied mathematics and statistics, while discovering the world of mathematics tailored to financial analysis. You’ll learn from experts in both disciplines.<br/><br/>Our modules are based on the latest research. You’ll experience contemporary concepts in mathematics and gain a solid grounding in how they apply outside of the classroom. Early on in your degree you take core modules. In your third year, you choose from a variety of options including:<br/><br/><br/>- financial mathematics<br/><br/><br/>- financial risk management<br/><br/><br/>- valuation of companies and cash flow generating assets<br/><br/><br/>- derivatives.<br/><br/><br/>You’ll develop your analytical and modelling skills using industry-standard software such as MATLAB, Python and R. You’ll grow your research skills in Year 4, preparing for an advanced research project.<br/><br/>Academic advisers support you throughout and you’ll have lots of opportunities to engage with potential employers. You’ll also have a dedicated careers adviser. <br/><br/>You’ll graduate with the skills needed for success in research or in the financial sector. You’ll gain experience in analysing large data sets, coding and team working.<br/><br/>The Department of Mathematics is a close-knit community where you’ll get to know your lecturers.
