Technological change, global uncertainty and sustainability challenges are reshaping how organisations deliver projects. Today, project managers are expected not only to manage time, cost and scope, but to deliver innovation and drive change in complex environments.
The MSc takes a broad and forward-looking approach. You’ll learn how to deliver projects within organisational, technological and policy contexts, developing the ability to work effectively across systems, stakeholders and uncertainty.
The course draws on the expertise of the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU), a leading centre for research in science, technology and innovation. Former students and staff have won the Association for Project Management (APM) Education and Research Awards on multiple occasions, for the quality of our research.
This makes Sussex a distinctive place to study project management, offering a perspective on how projects contribute to innovation, sustainability and real-world impact. You’ll study core areas including:
* project management in organisations
* innovation management
* risk and resilience
* design thinking
* managing complex projects
* systems thinking.
You can tailor your degree through options including artificial intelligence, sustainability and policy. Through applied learning, including experiential projects and the option for your final project of a dissertation, internship or consultancy project, you’ll develop both practical skills and critical thinking.
Alongside your studies, you’ll benefit from industry connections, enhanced careers support and opportunities to engage in mentoring, networking, guest lectures and professional events.
When you graduate, you’ll be prepared for roles such as project manager, project analyst, transformation analyst, or innovation-focused roles across sectors globally, including consulting, technology, infrastructure and the public sector.
