York St John university is close to the city, which you can get to by foot, or bus. The facilities at york St John are good especially if you need a coffee fix. The social life at york St John is great be cause they have many great opportunities to meet friends. Plus the accommodation at york St John is within walking distance of the university and the city

Psychology / Criminology, Graduate

(5)·By Anna O·Psychology· Jul 2021
I loved it! Lots of socials and getting to know new people. We had some taster sessions and introductory lectures which were very useful and informative. Not to mention all the club sessions and freebies! I loved my university accommodation- very secure and modern. All accommodation is within walking distance of the university and York city centre, so I couldn't have asked for better! I spent most of my study time in the library- it has everything from group study spaces to a silent floor. You are able to book out any room on campus for study/group projects. There are top class sport facilities which the university are very proud of and the students union was newly built and opened in late 2016! We had friendly and approachable lecturers and the course content was very varied. My favourite year was third year, as we were able to choose our modules and had more control over assignment topics! For example, I was able to incorporate my passion for British Sign language into my psychology of education module, examining research on the mental health of deaf children in mainstream education. I couldn't imagine living anywhere other than York once I was there and settled. It is a smaller, friendly city with lots going on all year round. From Christmas markets to food festivals and York maze hallowscream, there is always something to do.

English Studies, Year 3

(5)·By Richelle M·English Studies· Jul 2021
Loved every moment, went by in a blur but I'd do it all again in a heartbeat Really loved living there as I felt safe but had my own space too. Got on well with my flatmates and lived really close to town too Thoroughly enjoyed using the library as it is really spacious and the staff are really helpful. All of the uni's facilities are always clean and modernised as much as possible Loved the content that was included and the range of topics on my modules. The previous modules I had studies helped to shape my out of academic reading and my dissertation topic too Absolutely loved living in the city as I felt like it was a new sense of home for me. Being close to a big city also provides lots of opportunities for socialising and trying new things

Online but still supported

(4.8)·By Zoe K·English Studies· Jun 2023
I underwent my MA by Research almost completely online, but still felt completely supported by my supervisory team as well as the wider university team. There were plenty of social events organised by the PGR team to make sure we didn't feel isolated. The examination process was also held online which was convienent for me as I was able to keep my nerves lower being in a familiar environment.

Welcoming and warm

(4.8)·By izzy a·Photography· Jun 2023
Settling into york st john uni has been the most welcoming and warm start to any new school i've been to and the course is exactly what i was aiming for. the lecturers are very understanding and offer extra support and help if needed, along with tutor check ins to make sure not just your work is getting done but if you're okay yourself, which i think is really important for a good connection to the university.

Home away from home

(4.8)·By Erin H·Geography· Jun 2023
A lovely little uni, where your course are tight knit, with lecturers who suppprt you all on an individual basis. The sports clubs are well attended and give you the chance to get more involved, I personally loved swimming club as most of my housemates were in it too! I've made friends for life and had an amazing overall experience here. The city is like a bit town where you feel safe, which is such an important aspect to consider.

professional policing

(4.8)·By Bridget O·professional policing· Jun 2023
i would honestly say coming to york st john to do the policing corse was the best thing i have done.
It has set me out to begin my career after i complete my course and made it easier to choose a final career aim, whilst also allowing me to make some amazing memories, dont get me wrong the long assingments are not the best but are always worth it when you get some amazing feedback back.
In first year I was at St John Central in the center of town, although applying through clearing they still supported me and gave me all the infomation i needed. The flat i was going into had a previous tenant before i moved in and they made sure that it was spotless for when i was to move in. The only downside to the flat was the fire alarm going off so early every wednesday normally between the hours os 8 am and 10 am, the fire alarm did sometimes go off in the middle of the night but that wasnt to do with the staff that was students who didnt know how to cook or decided to cook after drinking ... i mean it happened to us all at some point.
the modules the university provide are very infomative and i always come away from lectures and seminars feeling like i have learnt someting. the only thing that let it down for myself and others on my course was in second year we had around 5/6 lectures for one moduel as they kept deciding to leave which wasnt very good but we still learnt alot regardless.
in regards to social life, uni has improved that dramaticlly. before uni i was the type of person to stay in as i was very anxious, since then however i have completly come out my shell. I have met some amazing people on nights out and through uni including at societys that the SU hold all the time. Uni also helped me come out to my friends and my family through the help of the LGBT+ society, i started going as i was questioning my sexuallity but they allowed me to figure all that out and since then have come out as being a lesbian and it was the best choice i ever made and im so happy.
