I stayed in the recommendation halls by Host, which are great and quick to sort issues. The Students' Union has been amazing with Harriet joining the team - she's made many positive changes and was amazing throughout Covid. Staff are so friendly, especially the guy on Reveption. University clubs are done by student so can be lacking but it's up to us to make them work - I loved running mine and got lots of support. Collaborative modules are my favourite. Freshers was amazing too and the SU are very accommodating for all kinds of students...they seem very underappreciated by many. Honestly many staff seem like they need more recognition like Emily in the Library.

Marketing, raduate

(5)·By Poppy B·Marketing· Mar 2019
It was good, really well organised with loads of fun events to help you meet people! Not all of the events were centred around drinking which I thought was great because you didn’t have to be some huge party animal to actually meet people, interact and have fun.

I went into halls suggested by the uni and they were great, not too expensive but quite luxurious, especially when compared to my friends who went to other university’s in more expensive cities

Facilities were amazing! Computers, cameras, studios - everything was state of the art. Library was fully stocked with everything you could possibly need and more.

I could not put into words how incredible I found the course I studied. Every day Was so inspiring and interesting, the subject matters were relevant and exciting and the lecturers were so amazing!

The city is good! Really cheap so great for students. There have been a lot of investments in recent years meaning the city centre is getting more and more modern and exciting.

You have to be passionate and have no doubt in your mind that this is the industry and course for you. It’s very full on and the students who struggled most were the ones who weren’t sure why they were there. It’s not a course you can just turn up to and blag, you need to focus 24/7 and put a lot of work into it.

Whilst it started off nerve wracking due to my age, (24, 22 at the time I started uni) Uni has been open and welcoming and definitely one of the best experiences of my life. I've learnt more than enough things, and lecturers are relatable and fun to work with.

Art / Design, Year 3

It was pretty non eventful due to covid circumstances. Myself and a flat mate were able to go for drinks and call it our “freshers” We have our own private accommodation, as far as my knowledge goes - there is no allocated accommodation specifically for plymouth college of art The facilities eg the studio spaces are nicely spaced out, great contact time with lecturers, library is vast I love the freedom to create whatever I want/there's not many strict guidelines to follow. Lectures are online and campus based this year which makes a nice variety I love the mix of shops and costal areas in plymouth. It's not too big but also vast enough for some exploring. It's also nice because Dartmoor and the beach are a short car journey away

So far, it's been really enjoyable and being able to start my course has been amazing. You're treated more like an adult and you're able to be more independent, helping you to persue the photography style you want.

Art / Design, Year 2

(4.5)·By Nadine M·Art· Jul 2021
It was really good, the uni arranged lots of mixer activities last year and there were lots of events/freebies. It was a good way to meet fellow students and a lot of fun. The college itself doesn't have accommodation but the student accommodation in Plymouth is nice. The facilities are great, always kept clean and looked after. The library staff are always very helpful and the library itself is easy to navigate. There is a lot of equipment you can book to use/borrow for free whenever you'd like to use it, even if it's not relevant to your course. The course is very much designed to fit the needs of the student and there are frequent meetings to discuss how we feel about the course and whether we are happy with it or not or if there are things that could help us more and that really helps keeping the course fun and interesting. Plymouth is a good all round city, it has everything you need without it being too hectic/busy. There's a good balance of city/shops/entertainment and parks/places of nature and usually some good events going on.

Freshers week was a fun, eventful time with loads of open places to meet new students Plymouth college of art has great accommodation allowing all students to have the best potential learning experience The facilities at Plymouth college of art are amazing, there is loads of room to house all the students and there are also plenty of quiet zones too for those who want. The course has allowed me to gain so much knowledge and understanding of film and how best to fit into that profession when I leave my course Plymouth is a great city not only to live but to study because the amazing venues and breathtaking views

Cinematics / Photography, Year 2

Freshers week in 2019 was a great experience. It was my first year in Plymouth and there were so many student events on during the day and at night. I lived in a third party student accommodation. Although there were problems at times in terms of maintenance. It was a good place to live. All very good. I do wish the library was a bit bigger. We don't have any sports areas at PCA which would be nice to have but I understand why we don't have one. Student union is amazing The course is packed full of opportunities to get into the industry. I have learned so much about commercial photography and really learned and developed new skills. The lecturers are so helpful and brilliant overall Plymouth is a great place to live. It's filled with cafes where I like to study and we are right on the coast which I love because I love walking down to the sea on my days off

Art and design, Third Year

I'm doing an Illustration course, it's a great university with lots to offer! You can use all the facilities for free, you only need to pay for material! The opportunity to have a go at other courses is great too! It's right in the middle of the centre so it's close to anywhere you choose to live and easily accessible to the shops. There are a lot of opportunities to buy cheap art equipment with the local pop up shop. Also when you graduate you have an amazing opportunity to go to New Designers in London to showcase your work! And not to forget the opportunities for live briefs is great!
