At reaseheath university, the accommodation is very good—your ability to learn independent skills such as cooking and meeting new friends. You can get involved in different activities, such as social events like UV party painting. I'm currently studying animal behaviour and welfare foundation degree. I enjoy the modules as there are theory-based as well as practical-based parts of the modules, such as working with the animal down at the zoo and lab sessions.

Students and staff are always friendly, helpful and willing to support you. The college hosts a number of different socials and there is always a very welcoming atmosphere.

Overall, it's amazing. Although the work can be hard and there are sometimes moments when you feel like giving up, I have met so many new friends and learnt so many new skills that will really help me in the future. The experience provided has just been so useful and I can't wait for this year!

UCR Experience

I study the Canine Behaviour and Training Course and I live on campus. The uni does take on feedback and my module tutors try their best to improve where needed. The course is interesting but it is quite assignment heavy. Reaseheath is quite far from main cities so night life isn't as good as it would be in Leeds or Liverpool, however Reaseheath holds socials and events weekly as well as a bus service on Tuesdays to the town that includes 2 clubs, and the service will bring you back to campus at 1 or 2 o'clock in the morning. The accomodation is amazing I live in a townhouse and you meet the most amazing people, who I consider friends for life. There is a great balance of independence and safety as there is safeguarding available 24/7

Course:
both of the modules from first and second year have been really intresting excluding the compulsary data set module over the two years which I personally found really hard. the first year lecture for this data set module was very unclear in her teaching methods and made it difficult to understand what to do particularly in the practical workshops. However, this year we have the same lectuer for both our lecture and workshop who is friendly and explains everything much better. The course based modules teachers are all really nice, however at the start of second year semester 2, one of the canine lecturers left after only working there for a one year. This shows that even the staff find it hard to work at the uni as much as students do. Overall, the training practical module should be year long instead of semesterised for semester 2 and when giving feedback on assignments the comments should be less blunt in how they critiscise.

Social:
in first year, I went to many socials which I enjoyed due to the people I was with. However, as the year went on the socials became emptier and emptier and needs much improvement. now in second year, i only go to the big big ones like the freshers party and the winter ball so far. drinks and tickets are fairly priced and affordable for what the socials are.

Accommodation:
in first year I had an ensuite in halls with a single bed and the normal funiture you would expect. out of the two ensuite singles options, my accomodation was far better then the other. however, at first i struggled finding my way back to my accommodation when coming back from the canteen and lectures because its so far away from the rest of the campus. with the canteen, i did not like the food and only lasted as catered for half a term before switching to self-catered for the rest of my first year. currently, my acommodation is a house designed like a flat, you wouldn't think you would be on campus. the house has a big kitchen, with a corner sofa and tv downstairs. double bed rooms with a bathroom shared between two rooms. this was a good choice for a second year as I was with my friends. unless you know people already, ensuite accomodation is much better for newbies where they have all the facilities they need 24/7 all on the same floor.

overall, i would still recommend this university to people but it does have a lot to improve on in terms of staff and student welfare. my course does need a lot of improvement which is currently in the works.

The FdSc zoo management degree was a good course, the staff were lovely and extremely helpful and always had your best interest at heart. However the worst thing you can do is live in, the student life on that campus is terrible, socials are dead and boring and its not surprising as its the same music all the time, drinks are extremely expensive. That uni would take all your money if they could. Accomodation is not worth it, far too expensive when half the things need fixing, some of the buildings need new equipment. Students are not heard, those of us in Platt would rise the concern for fridge and freezer space at the accomodation meetings and nothing was ever done. Safeguarding staff are nice but they tend to pick favourites, aka the Student association. There had been a few instances where someone was trying to break into one of the platt blocks with a hammer, safeguarding were called but they never called the police. I had a friend who had problems with pains and one of the safeguarding officers was joking about her saying " imagine if she's actually faking" no compassion. And lets not get started on the amount of toxicity and childishness of some of the students, choose wisely who you live with. I transferred in the end, I don't recommend the place to anyone
