MSc Climate Change: Science, Society and Solutions has been designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills you will need to help respond to the challenges of human-induced climate change.
Here, you will join a cohort of students and experts committed to understanding and responding to climate change. You will study across disciplines to understand climate issues from different angles. And you will graduate with the expertise to go out into the world and address to the challenges of human-induced climate change.
This is an interdisciplinary programme. It is led by the Department of Geography but draws from resources and knowledge from across the University. You will benefit from:
* world-class academics who can help you tailor your studies around social sciences or natural sciences;
* collaborations with leading research centres like the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research;
* optional units from a range of university departments, such as the Humanitarian and Conflict Response Institute and the Global Development Institute.
You will study the full range of options for tackling climate change, including:
* mitigation options for reducing and removing greenhouse gas emissions;
* adaptation options for protecting against climate change impacts;
* more unconventional solar geoengineering ideas (reflecting sunlight back into space to cool the planet).
It will give you the chance to develop tools and hone expertise like:
* scientific knowledge of climate change;
* critical, analytical, and communication skills;
* designing and delivering cutting-edge research.
The programme is ideal for anyone who wants to develop the knowledge and skills to tackle climate change in their chosen profession or area of expertise.
This includes, but is not limited to, those wishing to work in:
* local, national or international climate policy;
* industries focussed on climate change innovations or corporate social responsibility (CSR);
* non-governmental organisations (NGOs) campaigning or lobbying for action on climate change issues;
* academia with a focus on climate change research.
Whatever your goal, you will have the freedom to specialise to help you achieve it. Our array of elective units help you tailor your studies according to your interests and ambitions. And you don't have to make these choices alone; you will be given expert guidance during the induction process, and throughout the wider programme.
