Examine how intellectual property law shapes innovation, business and society in a rapidly changing global environment.
Our LLM Intellectual Property Law gives you an advanced understanding of copyright, trademark and patent law as well as of intellectual property policy in the context of modern business. Guided by expert academics, you will explore the legal frameworks that govern the creation, protection, enforcement and defence of intellectual property rights across national and international jurisdictions.
A distinctive feature of our course is its focus on the economic, social and philosophical dimensions of intellectual property law. Through critical engagement with contemporary legal frameworks, you will analyse complex legal issues and evaluate the challenges facing global intellectual property systems with confidence.
You will build specialist knowledge through study in core areas including trademark law, patent law and copyright law, while developing advanced legal research, analysis and communication skills through independent study and dissertation work.
Your studies will combine intellectual depth with flexibility, allowing you to explore wider legal and policy issues through optional units. You will gain insight into how intellectual property law interacts with business, regulation and international legal systems, helping you understand its role in supporting innovation and economic development.
As part of one of Europe's leading law schools, you will learn from diverse academic experts conducting internationally renowned research. We will bring global perspectives into your learning, through our strong links to organisations including the United Nations, the World Trade Organization and a range of legal authorities.
Alongside academic study, you will develop invaluable practical legal skills through providing free legal advice to vulnerable members of society through our Legal Advice Centre, contributing to the Manchester Innocence Project and using our purpose-built moot court facilities.
