Designed for those passionate about understanding and challenging societal norms, this course provides a rigorous academic framework and combines it with the flexibility for you to pursue individual research interests.<br/><br/>**Course Structure and Content**<br/>Youll have two taught modules and a substantial independent research project:<br/><br/>Advanced Research Methods in Gender Studies: This module will introduce you to the entire research process, from literature review to presentation of findings. Youll critically examine the role of research in producing knowledge on gender and society across academic, political, and public domains. Youll also explore various methodologies, including sociological, textual, and literary approaches, with an emphasis on feminist practices such as reflexivity and subjectivity. Ethical considerations and the impact of power dynamics in research will also be key components in your studies.<br/>Consensus and Dissent - Contemporary Debates in Gender Studies: Youll focus on theoretical, conceptual, and practical debates that have shaped (and continue to influence) feminist, womens, and gender studies. Topics will include womens experiences, essentialism, generational feminism, black and critical race theory, sexuality, queer theory, technologies, postcolonial theory, psychoanalytical approaches, affect and embodiment, and intersectionality.<br/>Research Dissertation: Under expert supervision, youll undertake a 28,000-word dissertation on a gender-related topic of your choice, allowing for in-depth exploration and original contribution to the field.<br/><br/>**Learning Environment and Support**<br/>Youll become become part of the University’s Institute of Gender Studies, a vibrant research hub that hosts regular seminars featuring both internal and international speakers.
