Classics/Psychology MA (Hons)

Classics involves the study of the literature, history, art and material culture of ancient Greece and Rome. Study of Latin and/or Greek language is possible at any level. Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behaviour. It is about understanding how people think, act, react and interact; and how this understanding can help us, as psychologists, help people on an individual basis but also help address wider societal issues through academic endeavours and professional practice. <br/><br/><strong>Why study this course at the University of Glasgow?</strong> <br/><br/>You will have the opportunity to visit archaeological sites and museums in Italy and Greece as part of your programme. If you progress to Honours you will have the opportunity to spend up to three weeks (usually during the summer vacation after year 3) visiting archaeological sites and museums in Italy, Greece or another part of the ancient world. Financial support for this visit is available to all Single Honours students. <br/><br/>You may also spend year 3 studying at universities in Europe (for example, in Athens or Rome), Australia, New Zealand or North America We bring together expertise in experimental psychology, cognitive science and cognitive neuroscience in order to advance the understanding of human and animal behaviour. <br/><br/>Our students enjoy an active social life, much of which revolves around the Psychology Society. Away days, evening events and team building exercises are held at various times throughout the year, at different levels. <br/><br/><strong>Career Prospects?</strong> <br/><br/>As a Classics graduate you will be able to enter many different careers, from the heritage/cultural sector and teaching to consultancy and financial services. Classics graduates also follow careers in fields such as publishing, law or accountancy; many decide to stay in academia and pursue postgraduate degrees. <br/><br/>Our recent graduates have been employed as: <br/><br/>experts in museums and galleries <br/><br/>librarians or archivists <br/><br/>teachers <br/><br/>civil servants <br/><br/>in IT/software development. Psychologists are probably best known for their work in the health and education services but psychology graduates can be found in almost any area of life. <br/><br/>A psychology degree opens up a wide range of career paths including educational, health, clinical, occupational psychology and counselling. <br/><br/>Increasingly graduates are also progressing to successful careers in allied fields such as data skills, teaching, social robotics & artificial intelligence and child & adolescent mental health professions, in addition to research and teaching careers in higher education.
